What's so bad about Zach Randolph?

Recommended Posts

Yeah 20/10 sucks they should just tell him to go to Europe.

Nah his only real problem is that he's got one of the worst contracts in the NBA. Like Tim said, if it wasn't for that teams would be willing to give up the D, emotion, drive to win, and personality problems for his talent.

Yeah just his contract. The fact teams still trade for him proves he is pretty valuable. He is a liability on defense and does tend to take dumb jumpers but other than that hes a very solid player. He was turning into a fan favorite in New York because he was averaging like 25 and 15 for 2 weeks but because of his huge contract that doesn't terminate in 2010 he had to go.

I posted this idea on a Nuggets forum we acquire Zach for Kenyon Martin and barely escaped out of the forum alive... I mean he can't be that bad?!? I mean Sheed was also this Jail Blazer before he was acquired by Pistons and he changed... my idea was if Zach was surrounded by good characters and playing for contenders, he too can change.

Would you take a chance on him if you can trade for him cheap?

Just his contract? The dude is a headcase. He is a very poor decision-maker, a poor defensive player, rarely in shape and he is one elbow away from actually breaking someone's jaw with a right hook.

I've seen too much of Randolph already, playing against him as much as we do. It's far from a privilege watching him ruin any chemistry the Clippers and the Blazers have had in the past.

His contract sucks, but his play is worse. If I were to take a stab at it, he's probably the worst 20/10 player I've seen in this decade.

lol you wish :dribble: well if it happens though, I wouldn't really pull hairs until I see for myself how bad he is. I believe he can change... I remember he destroyed Mavs in playoffs when he was still on Blazers, Sheed was injured and he was forced to start... down 0-3, they became the first team to force a Game 7 I think... Mavs were #2 seed.

His offensive production is mired by all the output he puts out to get it. The bad output at that. Then you see him resting on the defensive end and you wonder what you were thinking when you traded for him. He would need to be on a team with an alpha-dog veteran that wouldn't put up with his on-court and off-court crap. Someone that isn't going to let him just lolligag on the court and then go eat some cookies after the game. He'll never be a winner in this league if that doesn't happen for his betterment.

Point taken... I'm not convinced he is all bad people make him out to be. I still remember he put like 25 and 10 against Mavs in the playoffs as a Blazer... back then when Sheed was on the team too (injured) and he had to replace him.

I think all of his lackadaisical attitude is because he was playing for a non-contending team. If you can put 20 and 10 you must be doing something right. It's just how to steer him to be more of a team player and maybe winning situation can change him.

It's still a dice to roll, but I'd pull the trigger to get him, too bad he's dealt already. I mean if it fails you can always find the Grizz to discuss about swapping for Quentin Richardson  Too bad it's done. :(

I think he was good before signing his big contract. He won MIP and the Blazers organization were campaigning for him to play in the Allstar Game. But after the contract, it all went down hill. Everybody already summed up his game perfectly. He's a perfect example of why stats don't tell the whole story.

^Not really, if you see Marbury, he has changed. He said he was going to accept a reduced role, I thought it'd be hogwash but he proved it by his stay with the C's. Not getting in the way of the offense, looked to pass first, shoot later, he was everything he said he was going to be.

The difference is, Randolph has never indicated/ promised he'd be a team player.

I think we have said at least 100 times that Randolph is a cancer and black hole on offensive. but. to add onto the pressing issue of Zachary Randolph. The Grizzlies have no future with him! I would rather have a David Lee or Millsap than this old sack of crap. Imagine. A front court of Gasol, Thabeet and Lee/Millsap paired along high flying wingmen in Gay and Mayo. THEN a rock steady PG in Conley. Once again Chris Wallace, you have proven why you are the worst GM in the league.

He's a bum, gets in trouble, shoots too many long-range shots and is very unpredictable in that he can hold the ball too long.

So true at that last line. Thats whats really bad about him. True enough hes 20 / 10 when you jack up shots thats very possible.
