Built Ford Tough
With Favors emerging as possibly the most intriguing talent on this roster and proving that he should be getting major minutes next season and having Kanter on the bench as well, is it time for the Jazz to deal one of their two veteran bigs for some backcourt help? Or should they try and run with that big lineup where Millsap plays the 3, Favors at the 4 and Jefferson at the 5? They got their young guys some valuable playoff experience, but at the same time by making the playoffs and handing over their pick to the T'Wolves (as well as not receiving the Warriors pick like they probably expected) it really does kind of handcuff them in the offseason in terms of being able to fill that hole at the point. One of the only ways they could probably get a real impact player at the point is by dealing some of their big man depth, but the question is, is now the time to do so? DunkinDerozan
They should trade one of Jefferson or Millsap for sure, most likely for a guard. If I were them I'd trade Millsap.
Nitro
Milsap will probably garner more interest, but I'd trade Jefferson. He's the worse player defensively, and everywhere else they are pretty similar. Similar reboundibg numbers, scoring efficiency (albeit Jefferson has a wider arsenal in the post,,,on of the best in the league there), and neither are good enough passers to truly run an offense through. However, Milsap has a cleaner injury history, 2 less NBA seasons on his odometer, and is on a much more managable contract. Also, Milsap has always played with elite offensive big men in Boozer and Jefferson, so I feel he has some untapped potential in terms of productivity, and with the right opportunity could be the better player for Utah if they traded one of them. They need at least one big-time perimeter player. It doesn't necessarily need to be a PG, although that is where they are weakest. If they made a move for Gay or Iguodala in a trade involving Jefferson, that would give their offense a HUGE boost, and with Iggy they'd also get a very good playmaker and one of the best defenders in the league. It is also easier to find a great swingman than it is to find a great PG whose team is willing to part ways with him.
