Does Miami Still Amnesty Mike Miller?

If he can fix whatever is up with his back then we should keep him. He might not be on fire every night, but he has been fighting through constant injuries....he is still a great shooter and plays with a lot of heart and is willing to sacrifice his body for the better of the team.

Why would they? He probably has 1, maybe 2 years left in the tank. Its not like they are getting killed right now with a ton of salary either.

You really think he could be a productive player for another year or two? It would make far more sense to amenesty him, make more cap space, and sign a more effective player via free agency.

Just looking at their current roster they could definitely use more size and bulk up their frontcourt.

They shouild definitely amnesty him. Miller, Battier asd Jones are a log jamof one-dimensional 3pt shooters playing the wing positions behind Wade and Bron. Miller has the steepest contract of the three, but has serious back issues, doesn't offer the very good defense that Battier does, and is at best an equal 3pt shooter as Jones but is also more of a defensive liability. Also, Terrel Harris impressed me in the spot minutes he received during the seasoin, and offers some explosiveness that is a major change of pace compared to what those 3 other guys possess, and he still has a lot of room for improvement while the other 3 are either peaked or on the decline.

Miller's contract wouldn't be a big deal if it wasn't for the Heat's gaping hole at C. Joel Anthony is an incredible defender, but he is unbelievably bad offensively and on the boards, and with his limitations it was proven in the playoffs that the Heat are better off playing a small lineup that doesn't need to play 4-on-5 offensively...they get away with this because they have strong rebounding SG's/SF's/PF' who can play without Anthony and see no dropoff in team rebounding because Anthony is so god-awful on the boards. Against, most teams in the league, those small lineups pose no issues defensively and on the glass, but there are teams who can expose this area of weakness. They got lucky in the ECF and Finals because Boston is one of the worst rebounding teams in the league, and OKC has a poor rebounding C and zero post presences. However, people forget that if it wasn't for a historic 2nd half performance from Wade and James in Game 4 against Indiana, they would have likely been bounced in the semi's due to Roy Hibbert absolutely murdering them in the post and on the boards. In the future, if they keep this same C rotation, it could end up ruining their chances at back-to-back titles, especially against teams like a healthy Chicago, whatever contender Dwight lands on, Indiana if they keep making solid additions, LA and Memphis if they add some pieces, etc...

Basically, if amnestying Miller meant getting a guy like Chris Kaman (long shot either way), or even someone like Omer Asik, then it is a no-brainer. Miller's redunancy with the Heat's other backup wings makes him expendable, and that's not even mentioning his injuries or contract, And even if they can't find a legit big man, getting rid of Miller could mean they'd have an outside chance of being able to sign a Ray Allen/Jason Terry, who would be a big boost to their bench even if their basic skillets are similar to what the Heat already have.
