Uh oh.

Marc Stein ‏@ESPNSteinLine

Source close to process says Portland & Charlotte have indeed told Brook Lopez they're ready to sign him today to four-year max offer sheet

Dwight to Brooklyn will be 100% dead if this happens.

EDIT: Add Houston to that list, also.

Chad Ford ‏@chadfordinsider

Following up on @ESPNSteinLine, Rockets are another threat to Nets w/ Lopez offer sheet if Bulls match Asik.

Any offer sheet to Lopez kills Nets ability to do a sign-and-trade. Rockets would have huge incentive to blow up Nets-Magic deal

Dwight Howard saga will be over. We either get Howard or we get Brook, Brooks and picks.

I agree with you that I want the Dwightmare to be over but I also want Dwight over Brook.

Dwight over Brook would be great but keeping everything isn't terrible either. Brook and Brooks could raise their trade value with a full season on this roster and who knows what we could trade for? Could maybe keep more potential and get someone whose starter worthy, but not as costly.

People sleep on Brook Lopez imo. Is he a max player? No, but a healthy Brook Lopez is getting max money from SOMEONE 10 times out of 10. 20 point big men don't grow on trees. And even though he is a bad rebounder (he is a better rebounder than 5 boards per game that he got 2 seasons ago, and last year is a wash), he is still a very solid player in this league.

I haven't heard anything about his health at all, but if he gets back to 100%, the Nets should still be a threat in the east with him at the center position, and Hump at the 4 grabbing every board possible.

Lets say the Nets get an 18-8-1.5 season out of Brook Lopez this year, is that not going to get max money from someone? The biggest concern for Brook is his health at this point, but as a basketball player, he is a very good player.

In an ideal world he's not. But this isn't an ideal world is it, if it was your favourite team wouldn't be paying max money to two players who don't deserve it either. The reality is that any player with potential to be a first, second, or third option offensively, is probably going to be getting max money.

I'm not saying he's a max player, I am saying he is a player who will get max money when he is playing to what he is capable of. This is a league where Omar Asik and Landry Fields get offered huge contracts, where Nicolas Batum is somehow a 12 million player, a player without a brain (McGee) is going to get 10+ million. To act like giving a big with potential to average 22 and 9 a big contract is crazy, well that's just ignorant IMO. You have to consider the landscape of the NBA right now. Giving Brook Lopez max money isn't outrageous when role players are getting a shade under max money.

Its not ideal, but its also not outrageous.

Amare averaged that last season sooooo.........

But when Amar'e signed a max deal, he was basically averaging 24/9/1.5...

Even Amar'e is a debatable max guy IMO...he was injured last year for the most part, and it was pretty obvious, he was awful, so i'm not even going to really argue anyone about last season. but over his career, i'm not sure even amar'e is a max guy. he's basically one dimensional(no defense), and isn't a GREAT rebounder.

Idk, to me there's only a few guys in the NBA that deserve the max contract. and Brook Lopez definitely does not deserve a max deal man.

Superstars deserve max contracts. Nobody else.

It's sad that others are getting deals because of the overpaying around them (centers are overpaid, simple as that), but whatever.

Yes. And it's hard for me to say it, but I don't think Amar'e was ever a superstar. Even in his best years.

Superstars are not one dimensional.
