In a video posted on YouTube, Stoudemire is seen in the gym working out with the Hall of Fame center and discusses what it is like training with the two-time NBA champion. "It's really like being a student right now, studying the game," Stoudemire said. "[Olajuwon] has so many moves man, it's pretty much a training camp mentality in early August."---------------http://www.nypost.com/p/blogs/knicksblog/watch_knicks_stoudemire_trains_with_DCJcEqCvrcZYhVHnQqIg8M
Check my Stats
Still think this is kind of idiotic. Offense hasn't been, isn't, and never will be an issue for Amare Stoudemire. Could he add more to his arsenal and get better? Of course he can, anyone can, but it isn't what he should be focusing on.

He stays in great shape. What else do you expect an NBA player to work on individually in the off-season? Plus, if you actually watched the Knicks, which I know you didn't, so don't lie, you'd know that Amar'e couldn't score last year.

Check my Stats
I'm not mad. I actually would like to see New York do well, believe it or not, even though I do despise players like JR Smith.

TheNotoriousBANG
not even worried the fire extinguisher will take him out again dumb people make dumb decisions, put JR, Amare in the same room something dumb is bound to occur in the span of an 82 game season. maybe they'll catch a late night ride with a veteran like Kidd Edited August 20, 2012 by TheNotoriousBANG

The Regime
There are plenty of ways to work on defense. For starters he can hit the weight room and get stronger which translates on both sides of the court. Secondly, working on lateral quickness is essential to becoming a good defender. He's already an above average leaper at his position so getting stronger and quicker on his feet can help elevate his game defensively. Amar'e Stoudemire already works very very hard in the weight room and on his conditioning in general. His physical shape has absolutely ZERO to do with the fact he doesn't play defense. Much of it is EFFORT, as well as just a fundamental understanding of rotations. Amar'e added 15 lbs last season, and was too slow because of it. The added strength did nothing for his defensive game, as a matter of fact he got worse. His quickness has never been an issue defensively, it's simply he has no idea what he's doing out there defensively as far as rotations and playing team defense, and it's been like that his entire career because he doesn't put any effort into it in games. My entire point is you can't improve your defense working out individually in the summer. You can improve strength and conditioning, absolutely, but that is so irrelevant to his situation that you are really reaching with your analysis. NomarFachix
getting stronger and quickerWas counter-intuitive for him last year, he put on 20-30 pounds in the gym in the offseason (in anticipation of playing center, before they signed Tyson) and then lost all of his quickness. If you think the dude isn't in the gym all of the time working on himself, you haven't seen him lately.. he's cut the [expletive] up. He just can't put on weight or it changes his game completely.
The Regime
Blaming his lack of defense on poor understanding of fundamentals is a really sorry excuse. He has been in the league for a decade, by now he should have a really good grip and understanding of where he should be under various scenarios. There's always room for improvement regardless of where his strength and conditioning stands. If he really has the desire and work ethic to play defense as you claim then he wouldn't be under so much scrutiny year in and year out. There are ways to put on weight while retaining speed and agility. It all comes down to proper training.

The Regime
There's a way to gain 20-30 pounds in an offseason and not lose any speed or agility? Never heard of it Obviously a player will have to compromise a little bit of speed and agility, but it's not going to be something dramatic. You said Amare lost all his explosiveness because of the weight, that's something that can be avoided. I find it hard to believe that his play last season was a result of the weight that he put on. You said Amare lost all his explosiveness because of the weight, that's something that can be avoided. I find it hard to believe that his play last season was a result of the weight that he put on.There were many reasons. Putting on that much weight, slowing down that dramatically, and then playing a position full of quicker players than the year before all didn't help, nor were they the sole reasons. All of this is irrelevant though, since Amar'e is going to ruin the NBA this year
