San Antonio: Acquired Richard Jefferson for Bruce Bowen, Kurt Thomas, Fabrico Oberto Orlando: Acquired Vince Carter, Ryan Anderson for Courtney Lee, Rafer Alston, Tony Battie I think the Cleveland trade was the best. They acquire someone that will be able to help them beat a team they struggled with in Orlando. Dwight won't rape them anymore,and they'll have an option to throw to in the post and make Dwight work on defense/tire him out/get him in foul trouble. No doubt he is an upgrade over Big Z, but he will clog to many holes for LeBron to do his thing. The Magic did the best imo, Vince Carter will bring good leadership and experience; plus a guy like Dwight has some playoff experience so he'll be hungry next season and will really make the VC acquisition look good. As long as Cleveland pairs him up with a 4 that can hit a jumpshot(Udonis Haslem, Robert Horry, etc.) then it won't be a problem. If Cleveland can pair him up with Dice that would be awesome. In 2004-2007 Wade drove much more than LeBron does now and Shaq being in the lane didn't cause any huge problems for him. However a starting frontcourt of Shaq + Varejao just won't cut it. Even though Shaq is old and not as efficient, he's shown that he can still be a dominant center and that was really the only thing the Cavs didn't have going up against Orlando. For those that think Shaq will only become a problem for LeBron during the game, remember that they have 82 games in the season to work with each other and figure out a way to become unstoppable. Shaq is a lot wiser than to create problems and issues and LeBron is mature not to do the same. Plus with Shaq's expiring contract, that only gives the Cavs more money to keep LeBron in Cleveland, so it's a great deal for this season and the off-season. This is a huge deal, and on the way home I couldn’t help but shake my head at the headline on the radio. “Does this put the Spurs back in title contention?” When did they fall out? Remember that first Sunday after the Super Bowl this year, and it was the Spurs @ Celtics and the Lakers @ Cavs and everyone was saying these are the 4 teams with the chance to win the title? It was true, those were the top 4 teams, and would have been going into the post season had it not been for injuries to the Celts and Spurs. It is just that most people have so much hate for the Spurs that they just want to prematurely bury them and call them old. Please realize Duncan just turned 33, Manu is going to be 32 next year, and Parker is 27, they are not old. What you saw in Duncan at the end of the year was an injury caused by poor decision making from Pop on managing his minutes this season. He is still the best post player in the game. But back on topicMore so than the offense, I think Jefferson is an upgrade defensively. The west has bigger wing players that Bowen couldn’t defend. Players like Kobe, Roy, Anthony, Durant, Artest, and Ill include Dirk as well. These are players, along with Lebron in the East that the Spurs just didn’t have an answer for defensively. Now Jefferson can check those players better and slow them down because he is 20 + pounds heavier than Bowen. If he returns for the 09-10 season, they will meet the Lakers in the Western Conference Finals, which is a big step from their first-round exit this past season. Jefferson makes the Spurs dangerous. There's going to be too much going on in that offense now, and teams won't be able to predict how the Spurs will beat them. Anyways I think the Spurs made the best deal in getting RJ, now they can play Manu off the bench, and now the Spurs will ALWAYS have 2 legitimate scoring threats on the floor at a time, often times 3 and even 4 if they want. Cleveland isn't going to expect much from Shaq because they don't need much from him. Orlando still has things to work out themselves. San Antonio makes out pretty well because they were still able to be respectable with Manu gone the whole season, now RJ comes in and he can just go with the flow and bring them back to the WCF. Cleveland and Orlando are just trying to remain in the fold, and they have the pressure to get back, while they have Washington, Boston, Atlanta, and Miami (slightly) becoming bigger forces to knock them off.
