Phightins
Well, it would have been a better game if the refs weren't giving make-up calls to the Philadelphia Flyers and calling the Washington Capitals for getting pushed into the net. I just hate when refs make calls to make-up for the lack of calls the other team is getting. I am not complaining, 9 times out of 10 the Flyers are on the other end of that deal. I know that is how it usually is, but I hate when refs do that [expletive]. Anyways, Alexander Ovechkin is scoring 50 goals in 50 games. He was on the ground and just trying to get up and unfrotunately him and another guy got tangled up. BS call. Or when Betts got tripped which caused him to injure his knee. No call there. The refs didn't hand this game to anybody.

EastCoastNiner
Does somebody want to tell Scott Hartnell that there is no biting allowed in the NHL? That guy is a dirty little piece of [expletive], and none of that would have happened if he didn't grab Kris Letang when he wasn't doing anything. I love how you are always quick to point out when he does something. How about Evgeni Malkin getting a sucker punch or 2 in during every scrum and then skating away as fast as he could? He has clearly learned a thing or two from Sidney Crosby. Biting is never acceptable, but that team had it coming. Also, there is absolutely no proof yet that he bit him at all. Lets wait and see what the NHL has to say about it (although since Hartnell wears orange and black and a Penguin is making an accusation about him, that will be enough for a 5 game suspension itself. Campbell will not even need to look at video). Edited October 9, 2009 by Phightins09

Also, Scott Hartnell said that he didn't bite him, but that stuff happens when you are in a pile, which makes me think that he may have bitten him, and Colin Cammpbell will probably suspend him without looking at the tape. Please don't talk. I was pretty much rink side and the Bruins were just as guilty, Ferrence and Bitz in particular. Anyway, I took some pictures of Tuukka Rask just for you ECN. http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g96/philsphan1210/downsized_1022091904a.jpg http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g96/philsphan1210/1022091915.jpg Had to get one of Ray Ray as well http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g96/philsphan1210/1022092003.jpg Edited October 23, 2009 by Phightins09

Phightins
Blah. I'd say Mike Richards is looking at a suspension. Hopefully David Booth is alright. Edited October 25, 2009 by Phightins09
Phightins
Alright, after watching the replay a bunch of times, I've come to the conclusion that it's pretty much a legal hit, but Richards will absolutely be suspended because of A. the final result, B. the team he plays for, and C. the fact that Tuomo Ruutu was just suspended 3 games for a hit that did not look nearly as gruesome. It's unfortunate that Booth got hurt, but this hit is really no different than many others I have seen. Richards did not leave his feet or extend his arms, it was just a clean shoulder hit, and unfortunately Booth was staring off into space and had no idea it was coming. People will say that Booth did not have the puck, making it look like Richards was head hunting, but he clearly made up his mind to make the hit while Booth had the puck, and there was no stopping that momentum. My favorite part of the whole thing is that Scott Stevens' hit on Eric Lindros in 2000 was virtually the exact same thing, and had the exact same final result (ironically it was at almost the exact same part of the rink), but it is lauded as one of the greatest hits in NHL history. In Richards' case, he is looking at a lengthy suspension. If it is a 1 or 2 game suspension, I will be alright with it, but anything more is kind of ridiculous in my mind. There was nothing blatantly dirty about the hit. Unfortunately, I think we are looking at 4 or 5 games. Richards is a very clean player, however, so perhaps his reputation can save him. The most important thing is that David Booth is alright. I heard he was moving his extremities, so hopefully it is not as bad as it looked on the ice. Also, I have a hunch that a certain Boston Bruins fan is going to disagree entirely. Edited October 25, 2009 by Phightins09
EastCoastNiner
First off, I don't necessarily think it was a dirty hit, just very unnecessary coming from a player that many people feel is very classy. Secondly, don't compare that hit to the Scott Stevens hit on Eric Lindros because Eric Lindros was an idiot throughout his entire career skating with his head down like an absolute moron, and David Booth was going in the other direction after he had the puck unlike Eric Lindros. He was a great player, but had TERRIBLE hockey sense. Edited October 25, 2009 by EastCoastNiner

He was a great player, but had TERRIBLE hockey sense. I agree about Lindros, but you could argue that Booth should have known a hit was coming too. How he didn't sense Richards coming is beyond me, and even though he got rid of the puck, he had to realize that momentum was going to make that hit happen anyway. Whatever, an unfortunate situation all around. I think that in the end, the fact that Booth got shaken up as badly as he did will be the deciding factor. That and the fact that Tuomo Ruutu was just suspended 3 games for a shot to the head.

Universe
And as for "dirty," well, the media jackals are going to love this one (guilty). Mike Richards had this to say about Alex Ovechkin's play on Tuesday: "We knew he was gonna be running around a bit with maybe some dirty hits, but we shrugged those off, we played hard against him and we didn't give him too much." A reporter followed up with a question about Ovechkin's run at Jeff Carter; "Well, he jumped at him," Richards said. "I mean, how many times is he gonna have to do that before he hurts somebody? And then you don't even get a call against it. I mean, if he hits him there, next thing you know the guy's knocked out, head shot, the guy's hurt. So I thought it would have been a penalty. But apparently not."
