EastCoastNiner
The Armstrong/JVR thing happened during the five minutes I missed for a Wawa run, so I cannot comment. I have not even seen a replay yet. Most of the beat writers I follow on Twitter seem to think it was brutal and Armstrong absolutely deserved the gamer, and they are usually pretty objective. I will say that the officiating was pretty inconsistent tonight. Did not lose us this game though, Johan Hedberg was just awesome. Flyers played a pretty good game from top to bottom, I thought, but this was one of those games that you just have to chalk up to the opposing goaltender. Pretty bad timing, since we could have used the two points really badly. It was interesting because I was reading a thread that said something along the lines of "Colby Armstrong Destroys JVR", but when I saw the video, it didn't look that big at all, maybe because I didn't see JVR go crashing into the boards or someithng, but most people were saying it was a definate 5 minute charging penalty and a game misconduct. Anyways, that's all.

Phightins
The Flyers must really like Oskars Bartulis since they signed him to a 3-year extension.
Phightins
As I have said, I am now convinced that if there was ever a player born to be a Flyer it was Ian Laperriere. http://i54.photobucket.com/albums/g96/philsphan1210/x2_577322.jpg
Phightins
Hate to say it because I like John Stevens a lot, but I have a feeling he will be fired within the next week or so.
EastCoastNiner
Hate to say it because I like John Stevens a lot, but I have a feeling he will be fired within the next week or so. There's no excuse for the Philadelphia Flyers to be in the bottom 10 in the Eastern Conference, and be shut out in two consecutive games with the talent on that team. If they get a good coach, they should go very far. Also, Daniel Briere will be getting another suspension for at least his third gutless spear that I have seen from him. At least Chris Pronger can back up his actions, not saying he's done anything cheap this year, but he will at least back it up. Daniel Briere has always been a soft bum, and I see why Alexander Ovechkin wrecked that bum a while ago. If they get a good coach, they should go very far. It is getting ridiculous, and from what I am hearing Paul Holmgren is about ready to pull the plug on Stevens. Pretty much the same thing happened last year, they coasted through the regular season but had these big lulls at various points, and when the playoffs came around they were just dead. This team is way too talented for this, and now that they made the Pronger trade there are even less excuses. Which leads me to another point, Mike Richards is not a very good captain. Chris Pronger should absolutely be captain of the team. From what I have heard, Stevens has "lost the team" (sorry for using a stupid sports cliche but it is true) and Richards is apparently doing nothing to fix things. Pronger has offered him help and he will not listen. Also after the game yesterday, Pronger was the first guy to volunteer to talk to the media, while Richards basically hid in a corner and said nothing. But, if I had to guess, if this team has another piss poor performance tomorrow night Stevens will be shown the door.

Phightins
And there are now some reports that Mike Richards has resigned as captain. Jesus, [expletive] is really hitting the fan today.

Jesus, [expletive] is really hitting the fan today. i havent seen anything about it, but if its true then it is not that bad of a move. richards is still a very young guy and he should let guys like pronger lead so he can learn from them. i wouldnt be surprised to see richards as captain again in a few years, if any of this is true
Phightins
Yeah as I said I don't think Richards is a very good captain, not now at least. I'd love to see it be Pronger. But now it looks like this may be a bunch of BS anyway.
Phightins
Ok, Richards is still the captain, for now.

Phightins
Four game suspension for Dan Carcillo. Absolute horse [expletive]. Say what you want about Dan Carcillo not "following the code" and punching Matt Bradley too soon, but Matt Bradley needs to be held accountable as well. Carcillo may have been a bit too quick to throw that punch, but Bradley was also way too slow to react. Questionable on Carcillo's part, I will agree, but four games is an absolute joke. Mein fuhrer Colin Campbell strikes again. When the hell will he be removed or just step down?

Alright, they both dropped gloves, but that punch was way too quick, and I do understand the suspension, but a little surprised at the length. It's similar to the Scott Walker and Aaron Ward incident during last years playoffs, but Scott Walker didn't get suspended. So, I didn't like the Daniel Carcillo punch, and I have no problem with him being suspended because it was a cheap shot, but the NHL needs to be more consistent on suspensions, and that doesn't happen. My biggest problem with the whole situation is that he only got 4 games because of his reputation. Any other player does that (on either team) and it is a 1 game suspension, tops. And don't get me started on the lack of a fighting major to Bradley. I know the Flyers played like complete [expletive] last night, but as a result of that incident they were down 4-1 before they even had a chance. That was absolutely absurd. Phightins
I don't think you want to watch the Flyers. I was at the Sixers game and missed the Flyers, can't say I'm too disappointed with that/have any intentions of watching a replay.
fly3rs18
there is too much skill on that team to keep losing, we will heat up eventually
Phightins
I hope so, but they go through this every year. Of course it isn't usually this bad, but they always have these ridiculous lulls. Paul Holmgren's job is the next one on the line, so for his sake he better hope they get it going. Phightins
Things just got a lot worse. Ray Emery to IR. Possibly explains for his 5+ GAA over the past few weeks? Possibly explains why he got pissed off when reporters asked if he was healthy the other night? One thing is certain, this [expletive]ing blows. Phightins
David Laliberte and Johan Backlund called up from the Phantoms. Obviously Backlund is for Emery, Laliberte to fill in until Carcillo gets back (I'd imagine). I guess they have finally had enough of Cote...about time. And Emery has an abdominal tear. Possibly could need surgery.
Phightins
Make that official....he will have surgery tomorrow and will be out for 6 weeks. YAY!
EastCoastNiner
Scott Hartnell was actually somewhat innocent tonight during the minor scrum during the 3rd Period. That's quite the surprise, but I don't know how he got four minutes for that.

That's quite the surprise, but I don't know how he got four minutes for that. Yeah, it looks like John Tavares is already starting to get the Sidney Crosby treatment from the officials. As for the Flyers, this game has been a very positive sign. Great special teams, three of the big guns that have been struggling getting on track (Richards Carter and Giroux) and decent enough goaltending. Granted, it is against a pretty bad Islanders team that we have owned over the past few years, but still a decent sign.
