Poe
This game exposed a huge weakness on the Heat. Force the ball out of Wade's hands (8 shot attempts in 37 minutes), and even a below .500 team can beat the Heat by near double digits. It's about time, Beasley. The Heat need you. Owner Real Deal Posted April 10, 2010 Owner Report Share Posted April 10, 2010 Well, it also proved why Ben Gordon should be getting more minutes. The Pistons could be a playoff team if they didn't have to rotate Hamilton and Gordon the way they do. They should've dealt Hamilton for a big. I'd rather see what he does over a period of time before deciding if it's worth it to start him. In my opinion, if he can consistently score over 24 point each game with decent shooting percentages, then the pistons should look at him as their starter at the 2 heading into next year. The reason I put the mark so high is because that's all he's good for, since he can't defend, rebound, or do much of anything else. The big downside to Ben Gordon is that he's a streak shooter, and virtually a useless player when his shot isn't falling. He's much more fit as a player for coming off the bench. I do believe that Pistons should look to trade Rip, though. He's not a bad player, but he doesn't exactly fit on this Piston team anymore. SRV
Man, I can't believe we ended that streak by losing to the Pistons....at home.

In the guy's defense, he hit 3 out of his first 4 shots but barely got minutes yet again. If you want another offensive threat out there then you need to have Beasley on the floor especially against Detroit's forwards who he can take off the dribble in his sleep like he did tonight when he was in. This was a game where he could've had a chance to make a difference but Spo went with UD and Joel. I was at the game and it looked like that last play where Beasley "stepped out" was a trip but that's from looking at it from afar.

Still, there is no excuse for the Heat to lose to the Pistons at home with a healthy line up and heading into the playoffs. Beasley only scored 9 points in 27 minutes, which is on pace to score only 12 points in 36 minutes (Wade's avg playing time), while Haslem managed to have 16 points and 11 rebounds in the same amount of time as Bease. Good players produce no matter what. Spoon-feeding Beasley minutes and the hand-feeding him the ball isn't going to make him a better player. He has to earn it himself, and the Heat need him to right now.

IMO if you want him to make an impact he needs the ball in his hands, not just setting screens and flaring out only to pass it off again. He needs to get the ball where he can create a shot for himself. That's JMO.
Flash
UD played a great game and I dont' fault Spo for playing him his minutes. IMO we should've used a lineup of Wade, Wright, Beasley, Haslem and either JO or Joel.

I think what he did in Chicago was enough to say he needs to be a second option on a good team, or coming off the bench for a contender...but bringing him off the bench for a pathetic team is ridiculous. I think what he did in Chicago was enough to say he needs to be a second option on a good team, or coming off the bench for a contender...but bringing him off the bench for a pathetic team is ridiculous. His playing style is too ideal for coming off the bench. Well, I wouldn't start him if the Pistons were my team. Personally, I don't think he's the type that can be a real piece to any contender (as a starter, anyway). I'd rather trade him. UD played a great game and I dont' fault Spo for playing him his minutes. IMO we should've used a lineup of Wade, Wright, Beasley, Haslem and either JO or Joel. I think you're right. Not that Beasley needs automatic large sums of minutes or anything, but I think the Heat should go back to having Beasley playing more minutes at SF, and Wright at SG, while Arroyo or Wade is at the point. Chalmers is getting too many minutes, IMO, and is getting more minutes than some starters even though he still hasn't been playing that well. The experiment with Chalmers at the 2 needs to end, and other players need more minutes. Comparing stats in the past 5 games:Chalmers: 7.8 points (13-43 shooting, 4-26 from three), 2.6 rebounds, 4.0 assists (2.6 TO), 2.0 steals, 0.2 blocks - 28.6 minutes----------------> Arroyo: 9.2 points (17-35 shooting, 2-5 from three), 2.0 rebounds, 4.4 assists (1.2 TO), 1.0 steals, 0 blocks - 31.4 minutes Wright: 13.0 points (22-41 shooting, 14-25 from three), 5.0 rebounds, 0.8 assists, 0.8 steals, 0.6 blocks - 25 minutes Richardson: 11.0 points (22-37 shooting, 11-20 from three), 4.0 rebounds, 2.0 assists, 1.6 steals, 0 blocks - 24.6 minutes Beasley: 13.0 points (29-68 shooting, 1-5 from three), 5.4 rebounds, 1.6 assists, 1.2 steals, 0.6 blocks - 26.2 minutes What I'm not understanding from Spoelstra is why Chalmers is getting so many minutes when Wright and Richardson have clearly been outplaying him, and so has Beasley even though his standards are higher. Also note that Wright has outplayed Q-Rich despite coming off the bench for him, and is averaging nearly 20 points per 36 mpg in these games. IMO, what needs to change is: -Chalmers minutes are reduced significantly, all the way down to somewhere around 10 mpg. No more small ball. The Heat don't fast break much anyway.-Wright should start over Richardson. I mean, it's been a topic all year. It's about time he gets to start, or at least get more playing time than 25 mpg.-Beasley goes back to getting playing time at the 3, therefore more minutes for him while Haslem keeps his sixth man role with his proper playing time. You're right on all three. Q's defense seems to have died as the season has gone on. Tayshaun absolutely murdered him tonight. Dorell looked a lot better tonight. Beasley should play the three a lot more I agree.

It's just that he's freaking 6'5'' defending a guy who's 6'9'' with a 7'2'' wingspan. It's a mismatch and there isn't much he can do. That's another reason why Wright should start, since he's less prone to being outmatched by size, and would also have been a much better match up for Tayshaun. Heck, even Beasley would have been a better match up.
