When will we be out of debt?

Well we were $500 billion in debt when Bush was in office.

We are now at a record $11 Trillion in debt.

The Federal Government’s flood of red ink hit another high-water mark as the Treasury Department quietly reported today that the National Debt hit $11-trillion for the first time ever.

To be exact, the Debt now stands at $11,033,157,578,669.78. Divide it by the U.S. population and it comes up to over $36,000 in debt for every man, woman and child among us.

And the government is running up mountains of debt with increasing speed. It took just over 5 ½ months for Uncle Sam to go another trillion dollars deeper in debt since hitting $10-trillion last September 30th. It’s the fastest jump in U.S. history.

Wasn't some of Obama's campaigning points to cut both taxes and spending, implementing a responsible budget that lowers the federal deficit by reducing wasteful spending?

Seriously I don't see this getting any better.

How's nothing getting better? I don't know much about politics, and even less about politics in the USA, but what I get from what I've heard here, things are chaning over there and you can see it in things like the number of unemployedment is decreasing.

About the dept, it's obvious it was going to increase, because to fight against recession you have to spend money. You guys are the [expletive]ing United States of America, you'll get the money back eventually.

Yeah Obama probably lied about the budget crap, but then again Bush screwed it up first. Its no point in trying to blame either, one made it bad the other is making it worse. Just realize politicians suck in general and theres nothing anyone can do about it. This country is screwed.

Does anyone know where all of these jobs that were supposed to be created are?

Anyways, he needs to stop stealing our money, and many of you do not realize that OUR generation will be paying this debt!

This is what's wrong with politics today. Every time something doesn't go according to plan they immediately blame the other side, without offering any real solutions themselves.

Seriously, stop going by what your party is saying and start thinking for yourself.

I am thinking for myself, and Barack Obama is making some really poor decisions.

He says one thing, and does another.

It's obvious what the Democrats try and do.

They will say "We are going to fix the debt, and we aren't making any excuses, BUTTTTT, George W. Bush messed everything up".

Anything that they do and fail at, they will use George W. Bush as their excuse.

The country has been screwed for a long time BECAUSE of politics. People can't think on their own anymore. They have to point fingers and find a way to do things differently, without merging ideas and coming up with a solution FOR the American people.

It's obvious that nobody on this message board, including myself, has any idea how to fix our current problems. Spend? Don't spend? We've done both already. We've done everything there is to do.

So the focus should shift to creating jobs and promoting sales through housing, the auto industry, and anything else that can pull us out of our hole.

Maybe the left wing and right wing should reconnect, instead of breaking from each other and taking a nosedive, like we've been doing for the last decade.

You've proved my point; you're blaming the other side and haven't provided any real solutions.

And what do Republicans do? How about spending $100 million to kill Clinton's health care plan with false advertising and lobbying? I'm not saying I was in favor of the plan, but I can find a million different ways that money could have been put to better use.

If you haven't noticed by now, both sides are dishonest, and aren't willing to agree for the sake of not agreeing. To blame one side for all the problems and not the other is ridiculous.

Well, when Bush first took office we had a surplus and look what he did.

When Bush was in office our budget deficit was at half a trillion dollars. The national debt was at $10 trillion.

Yeah thats what upsets me about politics, people want to complain when its conveinient for them. USA's deficit/surplus has fluctuated ever since the US started. IMO just keep your loved ones close, handle your business, stay concious and humble.
