Built Ford Tough Posted August 19, 2009 Report Share Posted August 19, 2009 Year You Became a Fan: 1995-96, the beginning Why You Became a Fan: The NBA brought two franchises to Canada and I was just getting into basketball at the time (I was like 4 years old so I wasn't like hardcore lol). The two teams that were on TV the most for me were the Vancouver Grizzlies and the Toronto Raptors. So the two Canadian teams became my favourites (with Vancouver slightly ahead of the Raps). When the Grizzlies moved to Memphis, Toronto became my undisputed favourite team. Favorite Raptors Player, All-Time: TJ Ford Favorite Raptors Coach, All-Time: Lenny Wilkens Favorite Raptors Moment: Vince Carter and Allen Iverson trading 50 point games and that playoff series as a whole, even though the Raptors ended up losing the series. Amount of Raptors Games Attended: Zero. Not really in the mood to fly across the country to watch a basketball game and since Seattle lost the Sonics, its a bit of a drive to go anywhere else as well. Started following the Raptors more since the drafting of Vince Carter and eventually the departure of the Vancouver Grizzlies made me follow the Raptors completely. Favorite Raptors Player, All-Time: 98-02 Vince Carter, Alvin Williams, Mo Peterson, Keon Clark Favorite Raptors Coach, All-Time: Sam Mitchell Favorite Raptors Moment: Vince Carter Vs Allen Iverson in the playoffs. Vince Carter + Tracy McGrady in the slam dunk contest. I went NUTS hearing about a team in Ontario. Favorite Raptors Player, All-Time: Hands down, Damon Stoudemire. And Mo-Pete for sure! Favorite Raptors Coach, All-Time: Sam Mitchell tied with Lenny. Favorite Raptors Moment: I remembering be in awe seeing Vince Carter in the dunk contest. Oh, I'd also say when we made the playoffs! Amount of Raptors Games Attended: I've been an avid fan for a long time, and I was going to a game every month or so up until 2003. I also see the Raptors as always have a chip on their shoulder being the non-American team. Favorite Raptors Player, All-Time: In the short time I've watched them, I have to say, I loved Chris Bosh's game and attitude as a Raptor. I also love Jose Calderon and Andrea Bargnani's humble attitudes and devotion to Toronto. Favorite Raptors Coach, All-Time: I loved Sam Mitchell's emotion on the sidelines but from what I'm seeing Dwayne Casey seems to know his stuff on coaching and specifically on the defensive end. Favorite Raptors Moment: They were many, all a haze to me now. I do remember Toronto's playoff game verses Orlando where our crowd was going CRAZY. I love Toronto's arena (when we're competitive) Amount of Raptors Games Attended: I've pestered my Dad about going to a game but he only wants to go if it's Miami Boston or the Lakers. (which we know the tickets are expensive and its hard to get good ones). With that being said I expect to watch more than my fair share of Raptors games when I finally head to University in the coming years. Thanks to Built Ford Tough for recruiting me to this forum. DunkinDerozan Posted January 9, 2012 Report Share Posted January 9, 2012 Year You Became a Fan: I've been a fan since 06' or so, because i'm from Southern Ontario but didn't become an avid fan until mid way through last season (10-11) Why You Became a Fan: To be honest, I didn't really become a huge basketball fan until I played the video game NBA 2K11, then I started watching more basketball games every once and awhile. Now I watch every Raptors game unless the Leafs are playing on the same night Favorite Raptors Player, All-Time: I used to like Vince Carter. New favourite player is Demar Derozan though Favorite Raptors Coach, All-Time: Well, haven't watched enough to judge but so far I like Dwayne Casey a lot more then Triano Favorite Raptors Moment: Basically every Demar Derozan highlight real dunk Amount of Raptors Games Attended: 0 as of right now, though i'm debating on buying a few tickets for this year, or just waiting until next year w/ Valancuinas and this years first rounder. I usually just talk about Raptors related things on HFboards which is a hockey forum. They have one thread for raptors news, game talk, etc, but i'd much rather talk about the raps in a basketball forum. Wasn't even a fan when he played, but I never really liked Bosh, and right when I started to, he left. Although Vince did the same, I'm just praying Derozan wont. Favorite Raptors Coach, All-Time: Sam Mitchell. Loved him, and thought he was a great coach. Favorite Raptors Moment: The inbound play, where Sonny Weems (I think) stole the inbound play with about 2 seconds left gave it to Bosh and he missed the layup, which would've sent the Raps to the playoffs, I'm mad he missed, but one of the most exciting moments I can remember watching the Raps Amount of Raptors Games Attended: 2, But have tickets to 3 games this year Quote Link to comment Share on other sites More sharing options...
