OldChili
Then why aren't people migrating there if they provide so much happiness? Why would immigrants rather go to the US?What does that have to do with anything? Denmark is built for the people there, not for anybody else. Which is why I believe socialism wouldn't work nearly as well in a country like America. It's funny how you're trying to refute a study with no real arguments against it. You can't just 'migrate' to countries. There's a strict set of rules and procedures you have to follow to get into different countries. It took my family a year living in Germany under a temporary VISA before we were able to move to Australia via staying in Japan for a while. It's not as easy as just packing up and going. Plus, these countries also have the right to refuse entry if they don't think you're qualified (ie. poor or unfit to live in their structure, basically). That also. And like I previously stated, some countries in Europe such as Germany won't let you buy a house unless you're a citizen of a country in Europe. The United States is a much easier place to migrate to than any country in Europe. Edited August 21, 2009 by OldChili

So then what the [expletive] are you going on about then? A majority of the people here don't want it. You said yourself you doubt it would succeed in a America, so why are you going on. You're acting like a really immature douche bag, will it make you feel better if I came out and just agreed with you that socialism probably works in some countries? Would you just shut the [expletive] up then?

Maybe you should have paid more attention to my first post in this thread: "These people are acting like socialism is a bad thing." That's what I've been trying to get across this whole time; socialism is not a bad thing and it shouldn't be seen as such. If anything, it's a very good system of government if done right. I still think the United States government could use more socialist aspects, but what I'm saying is I doubt it would work nearly as effectively as in places such as Denmark, Finland, or Sweden. The poster addresses socialism and I talked about it in my posts. As for the second part, that argument just expanded from the fact that I stated, "these people are acting like socialism is a bad thing." That happens sometimes when discussing things if you aren't aware. Edited August 21, 2009 by OldChili

People are very emotional, and you just walk in posting "these people are acting like socialism is a bad thing." You didn't expect these type of responses? platoon793
Haha, this thread provided me with laughs. I agree with the socialism thing. Not a bad thing at all. And the thing about WWII pulling us out of the Great Depression, that is true, but the New Deal did a lot as well. WWII got us out with the mass mobilization, but the New Deal really helped the economy. During Hoover's last year (1932), the GNP fell 13.4% and unemployment rose to 23.6%. In 1933 (when Roosevelt came in), the GNP only fell 2.1% and unemployment went to 24.9%. The next year, GNP rises 7.7%, and unemployment falls to 21.7%. That's no random coincidence. When he cut some of his programs in 1937 (after seeing a record 14.1% rise in the GNP in 1936), the country went into another recession. GNP went up only 5% and unemployment was at 14.3%. Then, in 1938, GNP falls 4.5% and unemployment goes back up to 19%. He starts his programs back up in 1939, GNP rises 7.9% and unemployment down to 17.2%. Under FDR, on average, the average growth was 5.2% (compared to Reagan's 3.7%). While WWII was the thing that really got us out of the Great Depression, you can't say the New Deal didn't help the country recover. By the way, here is the source I used: http://www.huppi.com/kangaroo/Timeline.htm And the guy has listed sources, so he didn't just make [expletive] up. GamerGuy
Most bad government has grown out of too much government. Government big enough to supply everything you need is big enough to take everything you have ... The course of history shows that as a government grows, liberty decreases. -Thomas Jefferson

And don't give me the "you don't know me" bull[expletive]. You know what, fine. Your opinion is fine. That's just your preference. Nothing wrong with it. The problem I have is you thinking socialism is a bad thing in general. You might not prefer it over what the USA has now, but you can't say it's a bad thing and it's evil and whatnot.
