Lkr
230 for a used 40GB PS3. What is the difference between the 80GB PS3 and 40GB? Just the size of the amount of harddrive space? If so, I can do without the 80GB...Like I said, I will not need THAT much room, 40GB sounds efficent. As for a new 40GB PS3 they list it at 300, same as the 80GB, which makes no sense to me because how could they ever sell a new 40GB when 80GB is the same price and you can get double the space! Also, What is the XBOX 360 HDD room, anyone know?standard 360 was 20GB 40GB new isn't manufactured anymore, 80GB just got price dropped. only difference is hard drive space, although, the 40GB when it was around did NOT come with a dualshock 3, only sixaxis. The 80GB DOES and the slim WILL come with dualshock 3. ps3 only comes with composite cables(lol wut), so you should order an hdmi cable off of monoprice before you buy it since that will take 3-5 days to arrive. JYD
Alright. It looks like I'm going to try to go with the 40GB PS3 GameStop Refurbished tomorrow. I'll see how it goes. First, I gotta see what they give me for all my stuff. It needs to be in the ballpark of 200, a little less a little more I'll go with it...if it's no where close I'll just have no other choice but to wait 5-6 weeks, check to see if the 360 is still under warranty (have had the system for 3 years or so, thinking my chances are slim anyway) and just sending it back in the kauffin. JYD
does your TV have hdmi inputs or just component? or is it an SDTV?It has HDMI inputs. It is an HD 50" Phillips. I could use the standard TV cables though, but I obviously wouldn't be getting the best graphics possibly and it would look quite [expletive]ty. How much do the cables run at Eb Games? Also, as for the refurbished stuff, you really think it's that unreliable? The fact that it is 70 dollars cheaper has me thing it might be worth the risk, but if it's that bad... JYD
So I went with a 40gb refurbished ps3. I got 250 dollars for everything I traded in, not bad for someone who was out of warranty with a broken 360. I'll take it. I got madden too. Only thing I need now is the HD cables and NCAA football and I'm set. Quick question and I'm sure an extremely stupid one: Is it alright to lay your ps3 down horizontally? I always see it in pics standing vertical.

SRV
Yea it all depends on what 360 you get, I have had mine for almost three years and nothing happens to it..I even go on those streaks where I play for over 5 hours a day for two weeks straight lol. Good luck with your ps3. Edited August 23, 2009 by El Niño
JYD
thanks el nino. yeah i liked my 360, it was a very good system besides the unreliability, which in the end just sort of pushed me towards trying out the PS3. How do you connect to the wi-fi for the PS3? I have a wireless network in my house, I want to tap into that but don't know what I am doing. I can't seem to get it (I know where to go for it in the network settings on the PS3 but I can't seem to get it to work) Help??

I saw the ones at gamestop for 40...so these are just as good why are they so cheap? lolhdmi cables are all the same unless they're 50 feet long or more. the reason they are $40 is to trick the average joe into buying it and getting ripped off. JYD
Yo guys, Got some real bad luck... Now the PS3 doesn't work. I guess it was just bad luck getting a used one that didn't work. Played Madden for five minutes and it froze. Re-booted the system, tried it again, froze at the start upscreen. Gave it one more shot, and it said on the last chance "An error occured at startup" or something along those lines. Since Madden was brand new out of the case, have to assume it was the used system. Going to bring it all back tomorrow and hopefully get another used system. Sigh.
trutrojan8
Wow that sucks broski. I doubt you'll get the $250 back, since it's another broken system.
Owner Real Deal Posted August 24, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted August 24, 2009 Dude, seriously, just wait and add another $70 and get a brand new PS3 Slim. It'll be worth it in the end. Bigger hard drive, probably cools easier, and it's new. I'll never play Madden on my PS3 again. I really think that Madden 08 killed my first one.

I don't start my job until Thursday, so I am literally down to 0 dollars. Lol. The Used systems are generally fairly reliable I've talked to a few friends who have purchased them. I think I just got unlucky. Look, I know your idea makes sense and is logical, I just really don't feel like waiting 3 or 4 weeks at this point. JYD
You can either wait 3-4 weeks, and feel secure about getting a new system, or you can get a used system, that might break any day you turn it on.I don't necessarily agree with that at all, actually. Most of the used systems they sell are pretty good and work properly, from what I've read and heard from a few friends who have bought used ones. Sure I'd probably be safer with a new one, but also 70 dollars poorer. lol.
trutrojan8
But if it breaks 31 days after you buy it (and it can break, clearly), then you're [expletive]ed.

JYD
I just got another used system. Hopefully this one will work. If it doesn't, I'm convinced it's the actual game of Madden (which is new)...
Jamesus
I've actually repaired one of my old 360 consoles. It's a complete [expletive] to do, although you feel like the smartest man alive after you repair it. Next time my old one breaks, I'm just selling the parts to it, or seeing what I can rig up. Usually when your 360 console messes up, it's the GPU, which is known as the graphical processing unit. That's what mine did, yours could be a completely different hardware failure though. I simply took mine apart, replaced the washers, fixed the heatflow, cleaned the GPU and applied new thermal paste. I should sell my old one before it messes up again. I fixed my old one after I bought myself a new one for Christmas. Go figure. I would advise you to stay away from used systems all you can, because most of the time it's people like me that rig up a console to work just enough to take it to a game store and get their money's worth for it.
