Jeff Garcia never got any momentum in this competition. In fact, Cable lamented the fact that Garcia hasn't even pushed Russell to get better. Russell isn't exactly set up to succeed with Chaz Schilens out indefinitely and Javon Walker banged up. Expect the former No. 1 overall pick to struggle badly out of the gate and the Raiders to concentrate on their running game. Owner Real Deal Posted August 24, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted August 24, 2009 Expect Russell to struggle because everyone else is banged up? Uh, I expected Russell to struggle ever since we decided to go with a QB versus Adrian Peterson, the clear-cut choice for us.

Multi-Billionaire
I rarely followed NFL, but is he good? Does he live to expectation as a no 1 pick?
Warren2ThaG
I rarely followed NFL, but is he good? Does he live to expectation as a no 1 pick? He has potential if he cares to win, I don't see him succeeding in Oakland though.
Owner Real Deal Posted August 24, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted August 24, 2009 Well, he's not going to do jack in the league if he keeps gaining weight each summer.
Legacy
I think when he struggles, the Raiders will have a short leash and play Jeff Garcia.
bigdog17k
Expect Garcia to be starting sometime eventually.
Multi-Billionaire
Who can he be compared to NBA 1 pick busts? Kwame Brown? Olowokandi? Or is he decent like Joe Smith?
The Great iBoldin
Who can he be compared to NBA 1 pick busts? Kwame Brown? Olowokandi? Or is he decent like Joe Smith?  He'll probably be a Joe Smith. He's still got a vast amount of potential. Whether he decides to dedicate himself in the off-season and progress towards being an actual franchise quarterback is more or less the question. It always has been.  I was a fan of Russell to Oakland, and I still am. Lee Higgins and Heyward-Bey can cater to his armstrong, Chaz Schillens is going to have a break-out year once he gets past his foot injury. He has a solid, potential laden backfield with big play ability in McFadden, and he has a developing offensive line that has the roots solidly in the ground ready to move forward. It's really - more or less - a question of whether he actually wants to work towards it. He held out for his deal, and he's hasn't done much since. He's like a guy who disappears after a good contract, except he never really was anyone to begin with. CaliCurbStomppa
Raiders better hope Dey-Heybard or w.e his name is can live up to the hype. I think he can be good but it up to Russell that can get him the ball. Who cares about Javon Walker. He isnt the same guy anymore and u guys need to have McFadden do good so he can take some pressure off Russell's back

I remember everyone thought he was actually gonna be a bust because he ran upright.
