Suicide

Recommended Posts

So what are your thoughts on suicide? What would you do if a member posted on the boards saying that they werre going to kill themselves tonight? I mean, obviously there isn't a whole lot you can do since your hundreds of miles away but what would be the first thing you would do or say?

Obviously, people would think it was a joke at first and mock the person...But what if he really did do it?

I've had a family member commit suicide in the past (at least 10 years ago or so) and it's a tough thing to go through especially at the age I was at and I can only imagine what my cousin's had to go through (it was their dad).

Anyways, have you ever had thoughts of suicide? Had a family or friend commit suicide?

And no, I'm not thinking about suicide and I never have, I just thought it might be a good discussion on the topic as it's kind of a hard subject to talk about.

I can never feel sorry for people who even attempt to do this. I consider it to be one of the most selfish things somebody can ever do.

I agree with you there.

Why put others into suffering because you were the one suffering in the first place.

wow, you guys honestly wouldn't feel sorry for someone committing suicide? thats ridiculous. suicide isn't just a thing you do, you do it because of bullying or something like that. they would have a miserable life before the attempt of suicide. and how is this selfish? they were probably bullied non stop for years. it has to take a lot of emotion to commit suicide. i pity people that dont even feel bad for someone killing themselves.

I mostly agree with you.

But it's selfish because now you're putting all your loved ones in pain and hurt.

If there's anyone I do feel sorry for, it'd be the families.

And I've gotten alot of [expletive] because of my size and whatnot over the years(offline and on here at some points)...yet you don't see me trying to kill myself. It's just selfish thing to do. I don't care how much you've been bullied and whatnot...there's hundreds more positive ways to deal with that.

I hate to break it to you, but you're wrong.

It is selfish because those people are ONLY thinking about THEMSELVES, and leave their family to mourn.

It's a pathetic act to commit.

You're 14 and you probably get bullied eh? Don't worry you'll grow up soon.

We dont exactly make fun of your size in a bad way though. Actually I dont think we even made fun of your size, we just compared you to a lot of people.

All of us go through time times, does that mean we're going to kill ourselves? No... the ones that do are doing a selfish and coward move

agreed, but the suicidal people aren't "just going through a time", they usually never have happiness, usually have a crappy life at home, no friends, get bullied.... what would there be to look forward to?

You seem like you know many people that committed suicide and heard their thoughts right before they died? How was that?

no, i knew a kid at my school who left for a while to undergo treatment cuz he was suicidal.. and trust me, he had no friends, always got picked on, always looked depressed and you could tell. point is, nobody here has ever gone through something enough to be suicidal. (including me). i really cant see how you people dont feel bad for the suicide person. i mean they had a horrible life, obviously. why would you NOT feel bad for them?

I'm kind of in between on the matter. While I do think it's one of the most selfish acts a person could do and I feel people shouldn't feel bad for those that commit the act, I somewhat do feel bad for them still. It's like, you don't know what that person was going through. Whether it be someone getting bullied a lot, or someone going through an addiction problem (my uncle was going through a heavy drug problem and hung himself because he obviously felt he wouldn't be able to get through it), or if a loved one just recently died and feel they can't go on living without that person. You never know the full situation.

So I'm in between, while I do think it's selfish, part of me wants to feel bad for the person, especially the families and friends involved in it.

Keep the discussion going, liking both points of views on this.

You never get to see how the situation unfolds if you go through with suicide; Every situation is a learning process that helps you handle it better next time or a friend.

Depends on the situation, If It's something that's not a big deal then I won't feel sorry for somebody. If it's something that's a serious issue, like for example like some high school kid getting bullied by every single student, then I would feel sorry and I'd be pissed at his peers.

same.
