What's so good about Florida?

While Florida isn't the only one, the Gators are one of the more guilty. They played a I-AA team in each of the two BCS championship seasons (2006 and 2008) and has a I-AA team on the schedule every year from now through 2012. For all the talk that the SEC is the "toughest conference" in football, it rarely seeks to prove itself during the regular season, opting instead to load up with extra home games against cupcakes.

BYU should be in the top 5 after this victory, and its remaining schedule is strong enough for the Cougars to make a case for the BCS title game should they stay undefeated. They play Florida State, TCU and Utah, all three teams currently in the AP top 20. By contrast, Florida, everyone's favorite to repeat as BCS champions, will play only two teams that will be in the top 20 in next week's poll (and please spare me the 'but SEC is the toughest conference in the galaxy' fallacy*).
SEC Apologist: The SEC has the best teams in the country.

SEC Skeptic: How do you know?

SEC Apologist: Because week-in and week-out they have to play the toughest teams in the country.

SEC Skeptic: How do you know these are the toughest teams?

SEC Apologist: Because they play in the SEC, the toughest conference in the country.

This is not to say that the SEC doesn't have good teams, it's just that the league has its bottom feeders like all other leagues. And since top SEC teams get to feast on these weaklings, the argument that their schedules are tougher than any other doesn't hold water.

Do you know when's the last time Florida played a nonconference game against a BCS conference team outside of the state of Florida? Try 1991, at Syracuse, in a 38-21 loss. But this will be the topic for another day.

All credit to the BCSGuru

This guy really just took a [expletive] on ESPN and The Legend of Tim Tebow

Best quarterback in college football.

One of the best spread systems in the nation.

A vast amount of weapons at every skill position.

A deep offensive line led by the Pouncey's.

Deepest defensive line in college football.

Ballhawking secondary.

Underrated linebacking core led by the best in CFB, Brandon Spikes.

Really, who is better then Florida at this point?

They need to play someone though. And I'll take McCoy over Tebow.

They already proved they can play the best in the country time and time again. 2 National Championships, 2 SEC Championships in the past three years. Returned 18 starters from the National Championship team that had their way for most of the night with Oklahoma. 1 loss in SEC play last year, a one point squeaker with Ole Miss, who's obviously no push over.

They play Tennessee, Arkansas, in Baton Rouge, Georgia, at South Carolina, and finish against a stingy FSU team, despite the loss last night. What more do you want. Why risk a National Championship when you're already playing 7 or 8 good to great opponents?

And why McCoy over Tebow?

They played their first national championship against a [expletive]ty team that shouldn't have even been in that game. Last year, Oklahoma shouldn't have been there either. Texas and USC were better. The SEC titles I will give credit for.

This is where it gets interesting(second paragraph). Tennessee isn't much of a challenge and neither is Arkansas. LSU, FSU, and SEC title game are their only real teams this year. How do we know those SEC opponents are good as well? Besides Alabama and Georgia(and Georgia lost btw), none of them schedule a great OOC opponent. LSU barely held on against a terrible Washington team, and FSU might not even be ranked when Florida plays them AT HOME. The SEC never has to prove themselves, they are automatically the best for whatever reason.

And McCoy is easily a better passer than Tebow

UF is definitely deserving of the top spot as they are the defending champions. However I'm skeptical of a couple things.

1. No more Percy Harvin: He was their MVP. Tebow's great and all but Harvin is what made that team go. It'll be interesting to see how they do without him.

2. Can Tebow stay healthy? If he gets injured they're screwed.

3. Depth at WR: Losing Percy and Murphy is huge. Those guys were both big time players for them. Not sure Riley Cooper, Carl Moore and Deonte Thompson are as good.

1. Tebow is not the best QB in the college game. A healthy Bradford, McCoy, Snead and Zac Robinson are better QB's IMO. Tebow is the best leader in CFB.

2. Their spread is vicious I'll give you that. Meyer is an offensive genius. However, no Percy or Andre DeBose this year doesn't help.

3. WR is a big IF for them.

4. Their O-Line is tremendous I agree there.

5. OU has easily the best D-Line in college. Followed by UF and Miami(when healthy).

6. Major Wright is horrendous in pass coverage. All he can do is hit you and hit you hard. Janoris Jenkins is a stud and Haden is good too.

7. Spikes is a machine. Best linebacker in all of college.

No they haven't. They beat 2 teams that shouldn't have been there. Also, last season and this year as well the SEC was not the same as past years. That conference is terrible this year outside of UF, Bama and Ole Miss. OU blew that game. How can you say they had their way? OU should have won that game. They lost AT HOME to an unranked team...

C'mon man you think that's a tough schedule?

Tennessee is horrible and Arkansas is still years away from being a competitor again. LSU is the only tough game for them there. UGA has no QB and South Carolina's is horrendous. They'll beat FSU at home easily.

They play no one out of conference. I hate OSU* but at least they aren't scared to take on a team like USC.

I think UF loses to Ole Miss in the SEC game because they won't be tested until they get there and a physical team like Ole Miss might ruin their season.

Let's also remember, no team has ever repeated since the BCS was enacted.

You pretty much hit the nail on the coffin. Although USC has repeated if you count it ;)

And SEC won't schedule anyone after USC murdered them in 2004.

My main problem is the lack of an OOC schedule. They don't leave the state for any OOC games. They cancelled the Miami series and now we play every 5 years.

At least UGA has some balls and played Ok St. Hell FSU is playing BYU and we're playing OU.

He wasn't their MVP. A great player, but the team has several dynamic, undersized options. And while they may not be as dominant as Percy, they are certainly players on their own right. Ask anyone, they'll say Tebow was the MVP.

2. Can Tebow stay healthy? If he gets injured they're screwed.

I agree.

3. Depth at WR: Losing Percy and Murphy is huge. Those guys were both big time players for them. Not sure Riley Cooper, Carl Moore and Deonte Thompson are as good.

I agree, but they still are very deep, and the spread doesn't call for dominant receivers as much as it does a multi-threat quarterback.

1. Tebow is not the best QB in the college game. A healthy Bradford, McCoy, Snead and Zac Robinson are better QB's IMO. Tebow is the best leader in CFB.

Zac Robinson? The one that started the game 2-9 against Georgia and has an arm that struggles mightily at times? Tebow's a more impact runner and has a better arm, plain and simple. Jevan Snead has some of the strongest arm strength in the nation, but also started shaky, and is too unconsistent at times to touch Tebow as a college player. All those prospects besides Robinson are better as pro prospects.

I like Tebow over McCoy and Bradford, but that's opinion.

2. Their spread is vicious I'll give you that. Meyer is an offensive genius. However, no Percy or Andre DeBose this year doesn't help.

DeBose's a freshman. He wasn't going to play that much behind Spikes and Doe.

3. WR is a big IF for them.

Meh. Spread doesn't need many dominant players. The Gators have a stable of talented receivers who can catch the ball.

4. Their O-Line is tremendous I agree there.

<3 Pouncey's.

5. OU has easily the best D-Line in college. Followed by UF and Miami(when healthy).

I didn't say they had the best. I also think Oklahoma's is. But Florida has the deepest. Allen Bailey btw is a BEAST, top ten pick if he comes out this year, by the end of the draft proceedings like the combine and such.

6. Major Wright is horrendous in pass coverage. All he can do is hit you and hit you hard. Janoris Jenkins is a stud and Haden is good too.

I agree with Major Wright. He's terrible, he's just a big hitter, but Jenkins and Haden are definitely ball hawks.

7. Spikes is a machine. Best linebacker in all of college.

I agree. Although Weatherspoon is very, very good.

Agree to disagree. I like the points you brought up, it's just not worth arguing really. I think Texas will win anyways, they're built to win NC's.

Andre DeBose is a freshman WR out of Sanford Seminole HS. Same school as Ray Ray Armstrong who came to Miami. They beat Northwestern in the state title game. Urban Meyer wanted to use him in the Harvin role as that hybrid RB/WR.

Allen Bailey btw is a BEAST, top ten pick if he comes out this year, by the end of the draft proceedings like the combine and such.

Bailey is finally living up to his potential. I think he stays another year and he has the body of a top ten pick. I've never seen anything like him to be honest. Marcus Forston is also going to be a stud DT for us in the future.

One name to watch out for in the future is DE Olivier Vernon. He's a freshman this year but he's going to be a monster. Tremendous rushing ability and athleticism. Hits like a truck too.

Yeah, I mix up DeBose with another player, that ironically escapes my mind right now, haha.
