Athlete With The Most Trade Value

Alright....forget actual players for now. Obviously LeBron, Pujols, Crosby, etc are not going to get traded, that is why this is a hypothetical debate. But in any trade situation, in the MLB and NHL it is easier for the "seller" to get what they want because due to the farm systems there is way more leverage and are way more chips to play.

There are just so many more pieces that an NHL or MLB team can give up in order to acquire a highly touted player.

 

 

I understand that people may feel that a single NBA player has more "value" to his team than a single NHL or MLB player, which may be true, but that doesn't mean that the NBA team that is trading a star will get more value than an NHL or MLB.

 

 

In the NBA, a team may be looking for a #1 pick or so in part of the deal, but the odds are that the team that they are trading with will not have that high of a pick because they will obviously have some very talented players if they are getting a "Superstar" like LeBron James and the same goes for the NHL and MLB.

 

HOWEVER, since a team would probably not that high of a pick in a trade like this, it really comes down to players, and there are only so many players that you can trade in the NBA, and a lot of them are probably not THAT young.

 

However, in the NHL and MLB you have players that are as young as 18 years old that have a LOTTT of value, and they will be able to offer a team a good amount of those young players in a trade.

Quality young players are the same thing as prospects, even higher valued if they proven they can play at the highest level. A team like the Celtics was in the lottery for many many consecutive years. Then they traded all those lottery players accumulated for a superstar in KG which is essentially the same thing as trading away your farm system, just with a different word. If a team is in the lottery for many years like the Celtics were chances are their going to have some young players that catch team's eyes and make them contenders for a superstar to come there.

 

And I would take a guy that proved his worth at the actual level of the game in Al Jefferson while still young over an 18 year old that is hit or miss. Possible Gerald Green

I don't understand the farm systems or whatever, but if you were to scale it down (or up) for each respective sport so they're all operating on the same wavelength, I would think that LeBron would have the most trade value.

Farm systems and "Minor Leagues" are a big factor.

 

 

LeBron has a lot of value, but it's just that NHL and MLB teams can get so much more for a "Superstar".

That's why I'm saying you scale it so everything is the same, otherwise this topic is worthless.
