Diesel
No, Jordan did nothing for the Sixers except own them when he played them. I wouldn't want to see his number up there. I'm not a fan of retiring jersey's of players that never played for the team. And wouldn't that mean everyone with #23 would have to change their number? JWaLL
If it hadn't been done for other players (as you mentioned in the poll title), I would go ahead and say no. But since 2 players already have their number retired in their leagues, I say yes. One for each sport, why not? Lkr
Retire every other number as well then...
Celtics3420
No IMO. Jackie broke the color barrier, so that was important. Iunno why Gretzky got his retired, even ho he's the GOAT in Hockey like Jordan is to Basketball. But if there were anyone to have that Honor, Jordan would be the only guy IMHO. Universe
I think so as he was the once in a lifetime player, much like #99. Those who are wearing 23 are wearing it because of MJ and I think they would understand if they had to grab a new number.
Dash
^Ditto. Â I voted yes.
AboveLegit
Yes, he changed basketball forever, and whether you like him or not, you have to respect what he did for the game. He didn't just revolutionize the SG position, he revolutionized basketball. Pat Riley did it with the Heat, everyone should follow in his footsteps. xx.
Yes. My reason is ... yes do it.
Poe
It's arguable that nobody has affected the game more than Jordan, and since there are other jersey numbers that are retired league-wide as well, then yes.
ChosenOne
Yes he did to much for the league.
OldChili
[expletive] no.
Doc
Even tho I love Jordon, I wouldn't. Before Jordon, there was Magic, Dr.J, Bob Cousy, etc. They were all thought to be the greatest of all time in their time. Do we retire their numbers? Jordon is the greatest right now, but records and titles are ment to be broken.
kingfish
No retire 8 and 24! Â Honestly though, retire number 23. No one should ever wear that number again in the NBA, thats MJ's number. Even Lebron who is a cocky piece of [expletive] tried to copy MJ but he will never come close. deestillballin
I agree with it. I do think it would be weird to see LBJ in a diff Jersy but he hasnt done for the league what Jordan as done
reno
Their will never be another Jordan. Retire hes number.
