bigdog17k
Last team to win any World Series back to back was the 98/99/00 Yankees. So how do you like the Phillies' chances this year of pulling it off?
Phightins
Can they? Absolutely. Will they? Who knows. I sure hope so. Once you get into the postseason it's so unpredictable. All about who gets hot at the right time.
kingfish
Yep when they got Lee their chances improved. Though im not sure, some of the guys from last year are not the same. Rollins, Hamels, and Lidge most notably. But the past means nothing, if they get it together in October they can do it. Though the same can be said for any team. The back of the bullpen is hands down the biggest concern. Right now the rotation is as good as it has been in my lifetime, for sure, perhaps ever. Rollins's numbers are skewed horribly by a brutal first half, but he has been playing more to his career averages since the end of June, which is really all he did last year too. And not sure what the deal was with Hamels for most of the year, but since the middle of August he has mostly been the Hamels of old. He is probably our #3 starter in the postseason anyway. But yes, back of the pen is a huge concern. There is no way Lidge is the closer in the postseason unless something changes drastically in the next 3 weeks. Madson has been pretty inconsistent too though, but I suspect either he or Brett Myers will catch fire and claim the closer's role. But you pretty much nailed it, all that really matters is who is playing well come October and who can keep it going throughout the whole month. Just look at the Phillies last year, nobody thought they could beat the Dodgers or Rays. The Cardinals in '06 are the best example, IMO. They won 82 or 83 games in the regular season and won the World Series. Baseball is so unpredictable.

Guest N4S
Pretty scary if Ibanez is back on track. Also I think our pitching has a lot more depth than last year.
fly3rs18
i think the entire team is better then last year. the only thing that isnt better this year is the back of the bullpen
Phightins
They are way better on paper than they were last year, but the one thing last year's team had going for them is that they were almost unbeatable down the stretch in September and that carried into the postseason. They have been pretty mediocre the past few weeks. The offense has been very inconsistent as a result of all the strikeouts (this is the one and only time I will agree with ECN on this point). Also, not sure what has gotten into Lee the past month but he has been very hit or miss. Luckily, I think we match up pretty well with Colorado, and the Dodgers and Cardinals are sort of in the same situation as us (not playing their best ball coming down the stretch). Honestly nothing would surprise me in the playoffs. I think any of the 4 teams could easily win the pennant.
kingfish
Phillies will be thrilled to play Colorado in round 1. Left arms Hamels, Lee, Happ. To go against lefty bats like Hawpe, Helton.
Phightins
I'd rather play the Dodgers to be honest, but it's looking like we'll probably get Colorado one way or the other.
