Phightins
Don't see any way it isn't Jim Tracy in the NL. As for the AL, I dunno, Ron Washington perhaps? That team really turned a corner this year.
trutrojan8
Tracy, no question. If for some reason it's not him, probably La Russa. In the AL, possibly Girardi. They were in the midst of the wild card race in like June, and now they're hte clear cut #1 team in baseball.

How ever does Girardi keep his team in tip top shape with an unfathomable payroll like that. What an incredible manager. Anyways, I just wanted to start this thread to say that to the first person that said Girardi. Carry on.
bigdog17k
Jim Tracy or Joe Girardi should win it.

For one, you need at least a decent payroll to begin with, which the Angels have. Its not way over the top like New Yorks, who just go out and sign the best free agents. Please tell me why Girardi should win it fielding a team that is paid more then anyone else. Sciosia has had to deal with so many things this year. Significant injuries to all of the teams superstars in Hunter, Guerrero, Lackey, and other pitchers like Santana and Saunders. A tragic death to one of the teams starting pitchers which hurt the team emotionally. He has kept the Angels together and had them in first place pretty much the whole season, and he didnt need the highest payroll in baseball history to do it. The top 5 biggest contracts in baseball belong to the New York Yankees. Oh my gosh, how ever does Girardi do it.
trutrojan8
So the Yankees don't deserve the World Series title if they win it?

You could argue that the Angels from top to bottom are right on the same level as the Yankees on paper, smaller payroll or not. So what difference does it make? If you are going to use that argument for Girardi, you have to realize it goes both ways.
kingfish
Just because the Angels are smarter with their money doesnt mean it should factor into consideration. Does this mean Joe Maddon is in the same boat as the Yankees? Not at all, when you have the 5 biggest contracts on your team plus a lot of other huge contracts, your job is pretty simple. Unless you want to use the "hes got so much pressure on him" card, which is pretty ridiculous. What manager has had to overcome more then Sciosia this year, besides Jim Tracy who is in the NL. In this "Scoscia vs. Girardi" debate, team payroll is 100% irrelevant. The manager has no control over that. All they can do is work with the roster they are given, and in both cases, their teams are amazing on paper. If you are going to use that fact to disqualify Girardi, shouldn't the same go for Scoscia?

You're making no sense at all, and you just wanted to make this topic to see if people would agree with you that Mike Scoscia is the "AL Manager Of The Year". I'm not saying that Joe Giradi should win it, but the L.A. Angels have a pretty large payroll as well, and they play in a much weaker division. Also, A-Rod has sucked for most of the season, Chien Ming Wang is out, and the New York Yankees are the best team in the MLB right now.
