Guest N4S
Mikhail Prokhorov may help fund the construction of an arena for the New Jersey Nets, a spokesman for the billionaire’s holding company said Thursday. Prokhorov, Russia’s wealthiest man and an avid basketball fan, is considering funding the stadium after being approached by someone involved in building Barclays Center, which is planned to go up in Brooklyn, Onexim spokesman Igor Petrov told The Moscow Times. “The possibility exists” that Prokhorov will participate in the project, Petrov said, declining to say how much he would contribute. Though Barclays has never disclosed the cost of the project, reports have said the stadium’s construction will cost around $800 million. Prokhorov was rumored to have been in talks with Nets management in July to acquire a piece of the franchise. http://realgm.com/src_wiretap_archives/61643/20090917/russias_wealthiest_man_may_rescue_nets/

Klashnekoff
Things like this can transform a team, especially when you have one of the richest men in the world putting his money into a team. (truly he is, this guys a oligarch, look it up.) I'm anxious for us to just move to Brooklyn and grab us Lebron.
Owner Real Deal Posted September 19, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted September 19, 2009 I'm getting confused. How does this tie into Brooklyn and New Jersey? Are the Nets definitely headed to Brooklyn, 100% sure?
Klashnekoff
Yeah 100% we are moving to Brooklyn, he is just contemplating funding the construction costs and marketing development once the stadium is up.

Are the Nets definitely headed to Brooklyn, 100% sure?Prokhorov wants to finance the arena in return for part ownership of the team. He's had interest in buying the team for quite a few months. As for the Brooklyn move, I think it's safe to say we're breaking ground this winter. The court appearances keep on coming, but no major changes have occurred, the Nets have just been losing money. Guest N4S
If I live in NJ I would be ticked if my team moved across the river into another city or state.

I think New Jersey fans understand that.
