Cavaliers guard Delonte West was arrested Thursday night near his offseason home in Maryland for weapons possession.

According to the police report, West was charged with at least two counts of handgun on person, and for driving the vehicle in excess of reasonable and prudent speed. He was pulled over on his motorcycle in Upper Marlboro, Md. on I-495.

WUSA, a television station in Washington D.C., reported that West was pulled over at 10 p.m. Thursday for making an unsafe lane change on his motorcycle. The station reported that police said West had two handguns and a shotgun in his possession and was arrested.

West was released on his own recognizance and is scheduled to appear in court on Nov. 20.

He has some problems. I remember last year he had to see a psychologist for therapy before the season started.

Atleast he didnt actually pull the trigger like Plaxico, Marvin Harrison, etc...

He'll be back fine.

Whose to say he wouldn't have if he wasn't caught beforehand?

Cavs Don't Know How To Handle West

Delonte West's recent transgressions may have placed his future with the Cavaliers in doubt.

West was arrested last week on weapons charges after being pulled over for speeding on his motorcycle. The guard had three loaded guns in his possession.

Brian Windhorst of the Cleveland Plain Dealer writes that the Cavaliers, who have always supported him, were already unsure of how to handle the hard-nosed guard.

Last August, West was charged with marijuana possession in the midst of free agency. They ended up giving him a three-year contract worth $12.6 million.

Then, after a training camp scuffle, West left the team briefly as he struggled with his bipolar disorder.

Even though he pretty much is my favorite player in the Cavs besides Z, I'd be fine trading him.

Anthony Parker, while he's older, can start for the Cavs and he doesn't have any problems like Delonte.

We could get some good value for Delonte because he's young still and is a solid defensive player and 3 pt shooter.

He isn't going to jail is he?

West is one of the Cav's few youg role players that actually steps up and is solid for them every night. It would be a big loss to lose him. Anthony Parker is nowhere near the impact player that Delonte is IMO.

"On September 17, 2009 West was pulled over for a traffic violation. During this stop it was found that West had a 9mm Beretta pistol, .357 Magnum, and a Remington 870 in a guitar case. He was arrested and has an upcoming court appearance on Nov. 20. West could face a fine of $2,500 or a 3 to 5 year prison sentence on weapons charges."

I guess we'll find out sometime in November.

  • 2 weeks later...

Can they cut him without paying him at all? Like because of legal problems or something? They should just go with that.

I, for some reason, doubt they can do that. Something in my mind just doubts it whether it's true or not. Maybe on certain details of his contract say something regarding issues like this.
