Multi-Billionaire
How was it ignorant? Because you measure basketball as dunks and highlights. Outside of those, you don't think it's "worth watching" although they're still basketball. You're one of those "basketball fans" that exist because of NBA commercials... you don't love basketball because you love the game, you love it because of what NBA brings to you. Your "passion" of this game is highlights and engineered by those who are in the field for business. It doesn't come originally from yourself... in other words, your passion for the game is fabricated by other people instead of being original. If you really love the game, you play, you watch all basketball, not just one type. If you are not a fan, you can at least appreciate what they do, which you definitely don't. --- Btw, the WNBA has finals matchups... Fever vs. Mercury. Kobe (Catchings) vs. AI (Taurasi). Sparks lost so it's Lisa Leslie's last game. Edited September 27, 2009 by Snake
kingfish
Just because I dont watch WNBA doesnt mean im not a basketball fan. Personally I dont really even see it as my kind of basketball, they dont even use a real ball its a girls ball. Its just stand still jump shots and layups. If you watch every type of basketball just because you are a fan of the game I think you need a life. I watch NBA because its fun and exciting, and amazing things happen (no pun). I play basketball because its fun. Watching basketball where the talent level really isnt that good would be boring for me.
Multi-Billionaire
You talked as if you can hold your own against them, you wouldn't stand a chance, wouldn't last a day on any WNBA team. This is not an insult, but I believe even a pre-injury Real Deal when he was still in his prime/ Aaron who can dunk now wouldn't have a chance against these WNBA players. "Talent isn't really that good?" Don't make me chuckle, these girls can embarrass NBDL players easily.
Poe
For most people, if they choose to watch basketball on TV, they normally choose to watch it at it's highest level. It's the same reason as to why a game like Cavs vs Lakers is broadcasted on ESPN or TNT over a game like Kings vs Thunder. It's not necessarily the dunks and highlights, although that is a factor cause we all love big plays, it's just seeing the game played at it's best. I can see both sides to this, though. I've watched a few WNBA games now, and the lack of male athleticism doesn't take away from the intensity of the game. Just like the NBA, it gets down to the wire and you can feel the pressure of the game. It can actually be pretty exciting to watch if you allow yourself to get into it. It's not enough for me to pay tickets to see live or anything, but at least it's something to watch during the NBA offseason.

Multi-Billionaire
What Poe said makes sense but this "perception" of "30% shooting", "stand still jump shots" needs to be corrected. In other words, pull your heads outta your asses. It's like you watched it 10 years ago and decided it's gonna be the same thing before you give it another look. It's like people who said in 2009 Playoffs the Nuggets would be swept again by Lakers because they're so "undisciplined", "they play no defense"... just because we were a streetball team for the previous 5 years doesn't mean we cannot change. I really think a big reason you wouldn't watch WNBA is because you don't know the players. Think for a sec, would you watch any men European League games? Maybe not... but if you know there's Ricky Rubio on the team, or a future NBA lottery prospect, maybe you'd be keen to watch. This is why I brought this thread, so that you know some of the WNBA players' names. I really think they deserve recognition. All these WNBA-NBA comparisons are not an insult to NBA. Never did I say "Catchings is as good as Kobe". All I'm saying is "in the women basketball, Catchings is their Kobe". This gives you a list of players to watch. Again, you need to get rid of your old perception. Watch isolation plays, fastbreak finishes, drawn plays... they've really changed from it was a decade ago. But it doesn't matter what anyone says if you hold your perception... perception is value you put on other people/ things. If you think someone/ something is [expletive], doesn't matter if you try to act positive towards it, you wouldn't get a desired outcome. Watch Deanna Nolan, for example, what she's doing in WNBA is NBA stuff... all the isolation plays, crossovers and pull up jumpers off dribble. Clear your perception, be open minded. It also helps people who clear their perception to be not so judgmental in other aspects of life, like meeting new people, or getting into new situations. It makes you deal with things better. Poe
Yea, I missed it, too. Looking at the stats, it seemed like a really exciting game. High scoring like the NBA, plus OT. I'll definitely try to catch game 2.
Multi-Billionaire
I watched it, thought they'd never show it... Penny Taylor came off the bench and was unstoppable, she scored 8 pts in like 2 mins, Mercury came back from 8 pts down to tie it after 1st quarter... also shut down Catchings and Douglas some. Catchings was off all night, largely because of foul trouble but she tried to play mad defense ... Douglas was lighting it up. Taurasi was struggling, Pondexter got a winning basket and free throw. But Taylor was the star, without her Mercury would not only have lost, they would have been blown out.
kingfish
Who cares if they are better basketball players then me, obviously they are. Still doesnt mean I should spend time watching them, if your really that desperate to watch some offseason basketball you can watch summer league, preseason, or mix's on youtube. deestillballin
I love the WNBA. Now as I was saying about it it mixes my 2 favorite things Women and Basketball. LOL. I agree with everybody else basketball isnt about dunks and highlights it is about the love of the game. I missed game one. I heard it was historic. I hope the Fever come back and take the series though. I want to see TCatch get a ring
