headliner
Then Monta came out. He was usually dismissive and, thus, boring until he was asked if he could see himself and rookie guard Stephen Curry sharing the backcourt. “I can’t.” Why not? “‘Cause I can’t.” But why not? Too small? “I just can’t. I can’t. Can’t win that way.” Monta went on to say if coach Don Nelson - who has been saying all offseason he wants to play them together, is hoping to re-create the Ellis-Baron Davis tandem, it ain’t happening because, and I am summarizing here, Curry ain’t Baron. He doesn’t have Baron’s experience and size to make it a productive backcourt. Curry said he could see the two playing together, but it depends on the matchups, intimating he believes there are circumstances the pairing wouldn’t work. But Nellie said Friday that as of right now, four of the starters are set: Jax, Ellis, Randolph, Biedrins. That leaves two most-likely Link Well isn't this interesting
Klashnekoff
lol monta is just saying that because he sucks, he knows Curry is a better player and will develop better then him. Hence he highlighted that Baron was a all-star veteran and could run PG/SG with him cause he was so good, he however cant bring Curry up like Baron did for him because he sucks .. Monta needs to go to Utah for Boozer.
Poe
I found this on realgm, and he was more elaborate there. "Us together? No," Ellis said. "Can't. We just can't. ... Just can't." Ellis was then asked by a member of the media if he understands that the Warriors do believe the guards can play together. "They say you can?" Ellis repeated. "They say you can ... but you can't. I just want to win and you're not going to win that way." Ellis doesn't believe a comparison can be drawn to when he played with Baron Davis. "It's different," Ellis said. "When you're trying to compare Stephen and you're trying to go back with me and Baron (Davis) playing. It's a different situation. You've got a nine-year veteran who has been in the game and understands the game and knows how to play the game and he's got a big body. "You can't put two small guys out there and play the one and the two. You've got big two-guards in the league. You just can't do it. Yes, you're going to move up and down but eventually the game is going to slow down. You can't do it." LINK What he says makes sense. Look at how Courtney Lee got banged up in the Finals by whoever he was guarding. Any big 2-guard will take advantage immediately if they decide to play Monta and Curry together, neither of whom are over 6'3'' or 180 lbs. headliner
Monta is right but how he is going about is just wrong. To me it’s unprofessional and he shouldn’t have said that. Either way it’s still interesting.

Erick Blasco
The sad part is, Monta's the only person on Golden State who seems to realize this.

fish7718
I think these comments are being taken out of context. Monta is just trying to say two small guards just isn't going to work. He's right lol. Who is guarding Kobe when the play the Lakers? Who is guarding J-Rich when they play the Suns? Sure you can get away with 1 small guard but no 2. He was also saying yes Baron was small but he was 9 year vet and a great defender. Curry is neither, yet.
