Jays fire Ricciardi after eight-year tenure of mediocrity

TORONTO -- The Toronto Blue Jays fired general manager J.P. Ricciardi on Saturday, ending an eight-year tenure marked by an inability to get past the Yankees and Red Sox in the AL East and into the playoffs.

 

"This was a tough decision and a difficult one for me personally as I have enjoyed J.P.'s friendship and his perspective on the game," said Paul Beeston, Toronto's acting president and CEO.

This guy is a complete nut. He could have made bank with Halladay, but refused to trade him. I give him props for unloading Rios' contract, but it was him that gave him the ridiculous contract in the first place. Had the White Sox not been stupid enough to take it. Not to mention Vernon Wells horrible contract.

 

Toronto has a pretty good core actually. Hill, Lind, Wells, and some good young pitching. If they can get a mix of major league talent and prospects for Halladay they could contend in the near future. However, Halladays value has gone way down, thanks again to Riccardi.
