ALDS Discussion: Boston Red Sox vs. Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim

The Angels have a huge weapon they didn't have as much in the last couple series against Boston in the playoffs: running. Varitek and Martinez don't throw out many runners, and there are very few people that won't be going when on base. Also, Boston pitchers don't do a slide-step, so the runners have a good chance of successfully stealing. Boston needs great pitching.

Game 1: Thursday, October 8th, 9:37 PM EST, Angel Stadium

Probable pitchers: BOS Jon Lester @ LAA John Lackey

Game 2: Friday, October 9th, 9:37 PM EST, Angel Stadium

Probable pitchers: BOS Josh Beckett @ LAA Jered Weaver

Honestly no clue beyond that lol.

I'm putting my superstitions aside this series, and I will be posting in this thread.

Pitching Advantage- Boston Red Sox

Hitting Advantage- Boston Red Sox

Fielding Advantage- Boston Red Sox

Base Running Advantage- L.A. Angels

I agree with ECN. Beckett is killer in the postseason year after year, regardless of how rough his season is, he rises to the occasion come playoff time. Lester is simply dominant as well. Add Clay Buchholz, who is very capable of giving a strong outing, to the picture. Angel pitching is very strong as well, but the Boston offense finds ways to come through at home.

The Angels probably need to get runners on base and steals if they're going to win.

Red Sox have a better bullpen, Angels starters are better. But once you add Santana to our pen its pretty much even. Angels offense is much better, 2nd in the Majors in Runs scored, and thats with Torii and Vlad missing a large chunk of the season. We were 2nd in the league in stolen bases, so we will run on the Sox weak catchers.

But whatever, wel see what happens tomorrow.

How are the L.A. Angels starters better? .

Jon Lester is the best left-handed pitcher in the AL, and is starting Game 1 instead of Josh Beckett, who is one of the best post-season pitchers in MLB history.

Then, there is Clay Bucholtz who has been excellent, and a rejuvinated Dice-K.

Please, don't kid yourself.

You are also forgetting John Lackeys resume. Also a terrific postseason pitcher. A 2.63 ERA in 2 starts last year against the Red Sox. A 3.39 career ERA in postseason play. Pitched and won game 7 of the world series as a ROOKIE. Have fun with him in game 1.

Beckett aint [expletive] against the Angels. Last year we tore him up in game 3. And you can check the numbers, of his last 3-4 starts at Angel stadium we rocked him pretty bad, and our offense is 10x better then it used to be. Ever since we had a patient approach Beckett has had no shot against us. Not to mention his back spasms and whatever the hell else is wrong with him in the past month as he has been sucking. Weaver can handle the Sox, hes 1-0 with a .66 ERA against them this year in 13 innings pitched. Not to mention, hes 9-3 at home with a 2.90 ERA this year. And he has a career 2.57 postseason ERA, and picked up a win against the Sox last year in Boston out of the pen.

Kazmir has a 3.27 ERA in the second half, and an ERA UNDER 2 since joining the Angels. And he dominates the Sox especially at Fenway. Hes 2-0 against them in this year alone. And his opponent is Clay Bucholz? Seriously? I know hes a good young pitcher, but hes not going to get the job done.

Saunders/Santana/Dice-K all battled injurys this year, all were all stars last year. Either way, the Angels 5th starter will go to the pen and is far better then any 5th starter the Sox have.

Lackey/Weaver/Kazmir/Saunders/Santana, that is the deepest rotation in the league by far. Now stop being a homer and speak the truth.

Again, I never really like posting in the Boston Red Sox threads, but I don't give a [expletive] right now, and I'm looking forward to the Boston Red Sox hopefully proving how good they are, and winning the World Series.

Also, I don't know why "Kingfish" is mentioning Jon Lackey and his post-season ERA when he has sucked against the Boston Red Sox.

2.63 ERA in 2 postseason starts against the Red Sox last year. 2.35 ERA in 7.2 innings against the Sox this year. Not to mention he took a no hitter into the 9th in the regular season at Fenway last year.

You were saying?
