Ron already disrupting Lakers

i bet you cant wait until your rockets miss the playoffs either.

All the Rockets are missing is Yao, yet they have a more than decent replacement with Anderson. Scola will step up his offensive production in the post, Ariza will likely be a better fit for the Rockets than Ron, T-Mac is back, Aaron Brooks is underrated, and Shane always finds a way to make his teammates better, especially on the defensive end, and make the man he guards miraculously have "off games", plus a great coach to put this squad together.

Believe me, unless there are multiple key injuries with the line up they have now, the Rockets still have everything it takes to make it back into the playoffs this year.

You definitely know your stuff. :)

But this thread isn't about the Rockets.

Yao was the lifeblood of the Rockets. That team has everything but a legitimate source of offense to make it to the playoffs.

I think they are more than fine offensively. Brooks, T-Mac, Ariza, and Scola will all be guys perfectly capable of scoring 20 points on any given night. Plus Anderson, Budinger, Battier, and Brent Barry are reliable shooters, and Lowry is a pretty good back up PG, and Landry is a decent enough scorer in the post.

Brooks is full of energy, but he's not ready to be the head honcho or second-in-line. T-Mac is an enigma — he hasn't been healthy is an eternity, and I believe he's slated to miss the first half of the season... and who knows if he'll even be any good. And Scola is a fine player, and also an unreliable leading option. Who will create for Ariza? Hell, who can create any offense consistently? They've got a bunch of marginal players trying to fill roles way bigger than they are, and that's a guaranteed stamp for the lottery. I don't see it, sorry.

no, see what most people here don't realize is that they only won those game against the lakers is because they wanted to prove they could win without yao, and they had an insanely energized home crowd behind them. after the game(s) at home, the rockets got crushed in LA. I have no doubt that ariza is better than artest for this system, scola will improve, along with brooks. but they have no real leader. sure, you can say battier is the leader but he is more of an emotional leader. he is only good for 3's and defense.

Brooks, Ariza, and Scola aren't just going to improve, but all three are going to appear to have a "break out" year. Brooks because of an increase in minutes (he's already proven himself in the playoffs averaging 17 points and 4 assists in 34 minutes). Ariza by an increase in minutes and role (Adelman said he could actually be the first or second scoring option). Scola because the absence of Yao will make him the first scoring option in the post, allowing him to get more touches and be more aggressive offensively (and I think he was probably the top scorer in last year's Olympics if I'm remembering correctly).

And what do you mean by "no real leader"? Are you talking about a vocal leader? That's Shane Battier. Are you talking about a leader by example? That's Shane Battier again, and Yao Ming for his drive and focus towards recovery. Are you talking about a leader who steps up and is willing to take the big shots? That's Tracy McGrady. Plus I've also seen Brooks and Battier hit their fair share of clutch shots as well.

So, please tell me, what part of a "leader" are the Rockets missing in order to put themselves in position to win games?

breakout season is a bit much. they have no lethal #1 option who has already established themselves. aaron brooks is their #1 option? he still isnt even that good. pretty good shooter, sure, but no defense, very small, and young. ariza is good, yes. but he is a role player and always will be. he is not that great at creating his own shot. maybe in a year he can create his own shot. and scola already has a good post game. but you're forgetting a huge thing, these 3 players you are saying will have a breakout season. what if you're wrong? then who will be the big scoring option? no one.

what i mean by leader is they have no star. they have no big package in 1 player. they have a vocal leader in battier but what does he do on the court? 3's and defense. they have an offensive leader (or at least you are predicting) in ariza and/or brooks. what about emotional leadership? nope, just on court leading. either way: brooks and ariza are YOUNG. they still have a lot to learn before they can be leaders.
