MainEv3nt Posted October 10, 2009 Report Share Posted October 10, 2009 Dallas Mavericks coach Rick Carlisle isn't sure when swingman Josh Howard will be able to play after offseason surgery on his left ankle. Asked Friday whether Howard could miss the start of the regular season, Carlisle replied: "Stay tuned." "Giving a timetable was probably a mistake. We have to play this by ear," Carlisle said. "I'll probably announce it the day he is going to play -- whether that is in two weeks or a month or a month and a half." Dallas opens the regular season Oct. 27. Howard averaged 18 points and 5.1 rebounds last season, missing 30 games. Texan Posted October 11, 2009 Report Share Posted October 11, 2009 Honostly, I really don't think that we are going to miss Howard very much while he is gone, especially with Shawn Marion here now. Marion is much better off the ball than Howard, as well as being better in transition than Howard is. With Kidd as our starting point guard who will be able to get Marion into the open court and get him easy looks at the basket we will be fine without Howard. Marion just fits better with Kidd and the current Mavericks than Howard does in my opinion. Howard fits best in an offense where he can get into more one on one play, trying to take people off the dribble and use his athletic ability.
