La Bomba
Allen Iverson called his wife after the second day of Grizzlies training camp and shared some unsettling news: His hamstrings were tight. He sensed something was wrong. At 34, he knew his body. And no matter how much he practiced at Birmingham Southern College, his legs refused to loosen up. He realized this was the result of a long summer of relative inactivity. Fearful of injury before he signed a deal, he had held himself out of pickup games and largely limited himself to shooting drills — a good idea, in theory. But on the sixth day of camp, during an open scrimmage that doubled as his public unveiling with his new team, Iverson felt his left hamstring pop when he tried to change directions dribbling upcourt. And in that moment, as he limped to the bench, his athletic genius was compromised. "Frustrating, real frustrating," Iverson said this week at his locker, an ice tub awaiting him after more treatment. Throughout his 13-year career, Iverson has played with blatant disregard for his opponents' size and his own physical well-being. It is a minor medical miracle that he has been so durable for so long, having crafted his reputation by challenging bigger men, throwing his boyish, 165-pound frame into bodies that are as thick as vending machines — and somehow escaping with all of his appendages intact. But his short tenure with the Grizzlies already has been slowed by injury, that partial tear in his hamstring sidelining him for the rest of the preseason and creating at least some concern that his approach to the game — that unrelenting style that has made him such a remarkable athlete — has consequences. http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/oct/14/harms-way/

La Bomba
Iverson isn't as big of a ballhog as he has always been advertised. He has always had respectable assist numbers averaging 6 to 7 assists a game.
Owner Real Deal Posted October 14, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted October 14, 2009 Yep, the injury has sidelined him for the rest of the preseason, which tells me: 1) Iverson is finished, should just retire, and2) the Grizzlies will win 5 games, and should sell their franchise
