Built Ford Tough
While it's possible Arron Afflalo will start some of those games at shooting guard, Karl said that's "not written in stone," and depending on whether an opponent has a smaller backcourt, perhaps he'll start Carter with Billups, or if the opponent has bigger guards, then Afflalo or Graham could get the start and some extended minutes. Though the ultimate goal is to have Smith as the starting shooting guard, Karl said Tuesday that Smith will likely come off the bench in his first 15 to 20 games, easing him into the season. Smith is a weapon off the bench and, even though he hasn't had the glamour of a starter, he basically played starters' minutes last season (27.7 per game) and was usually on the court in crunch time. Nuggets players step it up back at home - The Denver Post Jesus, just start Afflalo until Smith comes back and then give Smith the starting job. If you really want Smith to be the 6th man then just give Afflalo the starting job all year. What is it with Karl's love for Anthony Carter? The guy is a serviceable backup point guard at best. It is a joke to even consider him a starter when you have other, better options like Aaron Afflalo.
Sun Tzu
Carter is rubbish and would be rubbish at the 2 IMO. I agree with you that Afflalo will be a better fit at the 2 until J.R comes back.
Owner Real Deal Posted October 15, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted October 15, 2009 Carter deserves 10 minutes off the bench, and that's about it. He has been overrated by Karl the entire time he's coached AC. Smith, Afflalo, Graham, even James White...those guys deserve more minutes. Carter is nothing more than an offensive nobody, an overrated defender, an undersized two-guard that has already been waived by the Nuggets twice in his career. You'd think they'd get the hint. Erick Blasco
Carter's also the only guy they have with any sense of discipline other than Billups. He's fine as a backup, though I'd also like to see Affallo start at the two.

Guys like Bryant and Wade eat Carter's lunch when he's out on the court, and on the other side of the ball, he becomes a non-factor. Kris Humphries is an extremely disciplined player, maintains his composure...but he should never get anything over 7-8 minutes a game, either. You have to know how to get everybody on the same page and in the right places and you can't make too many dumb mistakes. It's why I like him as Denver's backup. For an unstable roster, he doesn't make dumb mistakes, he's a decent enough defender, and he has a very nice assist to turnover ratio. Of course Kobe and Wade ill eat his lunch, they're Kobe and Wade!

Erick Blasco
The problem is that Carter will be playing the two. Lawson is backing Billups. I'd bet that Lawson plays about 6 minutes a game this season. A team with title hopes isn't going to give big minutes to a rookie.
