Teletopez
Back in September...Remember when you come out to a Nets’ game to chant ‘Dee-fense! (clap, clap) Dee-fense! (clap, clap).’ It’s what the Nets are saying in huddles at the end of practice and all Lawrence Frank is discussing. They are doing offense. They will do more as camp goes on. But Devin Harris was told his coach said they weren’t doing offense ever. “You have to do some offense,” Harris said. But that’s not our focal point. If we make mistakes offensively we’re not quick to jump and then correct them. It’s more defensive things where we’re stopping, teaching and making sure guys are on the same page.”Full Article The emphasis on defense continues..."When we were at our best defensively, our bigs were great talkers," Frank said. "You look at all the elite defensive teams now – all the bigs are great talkers. "Communication… is vital to having (a) very good pick and roll defense – which many times was the way teams got their threes," he added. So to avoid another defensive thud, the Nets have turned the paint into a chatterbox. Silence is chaos to a defense and the main cog in eliminating this trend is center Brook Lopez. "I'm just supposed to be on the back line talking a lot," said Lopez, who likens his role to a catcher directing the defense on the baseball diamond. "(I'll be) talking about pick and rolls, screens, just so we can limit their team to one shot and get our guys out to run – do what they do best."Full Article

Amare320
I haven't taken the closest look into Frank's coaching but from quickly looking over the past few years id says he hasn't accomplished anything outstanding, i really think his stay in New Jersey may be near an end but i could be wrong, if his attitude translate into success for this team sooner rather than later, then i suppose he's fully deserving of keeping that NJN head coach job. GamerGuy
I like what Frank is doing. He has very young team on his hands, and making defense the team's focus is a good step in the right direction. There will be plenty of offensive opportunities for this team, especially with Harris blazing up the court, so making your team's niche a scrappy defensive team is a good idea by Frank.
