La Bomba
"They know my personality and what I'm trying to accomplish. The players know them and their personalities. The continuity is always good." Hollins returned this season with his entire staff intact after taking over from Marc Iavaroni in January. Veteran coach and former teammate Johnny Davis, and David Joerger remain as holdovers from the Iavaroni era. Henry Bibby, Barry Hecker and Damon Stoudamire also stayed loyal to Hollins. "Any gray area is now gone," Davis said. "We know exactly how he wants things taught." Hollins said having his staff bond during the offseason wasn't about meetings. The assistants spent the offseason traveling to places where the Grizzlies' young players make their offseason homes. They worked out integral players on the road and in Memphis to help speed up the process of adjusting to Hollins. Although the Griz still have one main voice in Hollins, his assistants can be more assertive. "It feels stable. We're moving in the right direction and everybody believes in the coaching staff," Griz point guard Mike Conley said. "The assistant coaches are definitely a lot more hands-on. They're taking a bigger role because they're comfortable with their positions. The big man coaches and guard coaches have been able to help guys individually because they have a better understanding of what we need." http://www.commercialappeal.com/news/2009/oct/17/comfort-zone/ It's nice that the players and coaches get along, but Hollins still can't coach.
