Guest Nissan
It’s been more than four months since Kobe Bryant announced his intentions to sign a contract extension with the Los Angeles Lakers and pass up a chance to join the 2010 free-agent market. So why hasn’t he signed anything? Sources with knowledge of the talks say the Lakers continue to meet with Bryant’s camp and that both sides fully expect the deal to get done, though neither wants to commit to a firm timetable. The initial hope was that the extension would be completed by the start of the season. Bryant is scheduled to make $23 million this season and $24.8 million next season. He can opt of the final season to become a free agent in July. He is eligible to sign a three-year extension that could pay him more than $90 million, depending on the league’s salary-cap figures. http://sports.yahoo....=yhoo&type=lgns
JWaLL
Not sure why there is any skepticism, Kobe is signing that extension.
Owner Real Deal Posted November 8, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted November 8, 2009 I'm pretty sure $30 million a year is the second biggest payday for any NBA player, ever. That's crazy.
Check my Stats
If Kobe takes more than what he is making now he is a douchebag, he should be signing for 15-18 million so he isn't hurting this team long term to re-sign or add salary if needed. kingfish
I hope he takes less so we can continue to sign good players and extend our own. Thats what he should do if he wants titles.

Yeah, I have a feeling Kobe would agree to that.

So every potential free agent coming out this year should just sign with their current team for less money, right? If he earned the payday he should have every right to take it. That's like saying you shouldn't take a raise your boss is going to give you so that they can use that money to hire another person. If you choose to take that raise that does not make you a douchebag. You have the right to choose.
Check my Stats
Did you actually just compare Kobe to every NBA player or any other player? Lol every situation is different, Kobe will be 32 and this team's salary is already huge, his situation is different than any other Free Agent. People claim Kobe is a competitor, at this stage in his career he obviously is rich as hell and money is no concern to him, so he should be taking a paycut/staying where he is to secure this team's ability to compete long term, if not he is obviously showing money>winning and he is putting the team in an awkward situation, he wants to win but at the same time he wants to ADD to the biggest payroll in the NBA? Lol. If he chooses to take a max deal he will be making over 1/2 of the cap which will eventually force the Lakers to cut costs and the teams quality of players will obviously be affected. To continue your example, if you choose to take a raise that jeopardizes the (or 'your' in Kobe's case) company's ability to retain or maintain their assets moving forward and remain competitive, yes it does make you a douchebag. I am pretty sure Kobe will take a reasonable 3 year 60 million extension or something like that, I am just saying if he does take that 3 year 90 million deal or whatever he will be shooting himself in the foot when the Lakers are forced to move some of their key players because they don't want to pay an extra 60 million in lux taxes lol. Owner Real Deal Posted November 8, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted November 8, 2009 As long as Bryant is on the Lakers, the team will be selling extremely expensive season and playoff tickets, as well as Kobe jerseys. I'm sure Buss will reassure everyone he will go over the luxury tax threshold to keep the team together, mainly because he's making so much money off Bryant, it really doesn't matter. We could've said the same thing about Jordan, when he was making his $33 million a year.
bigdog17k
Kobe will sign the extension. I wish he would play for another team though. Do you guys think Kobe will ever play someplace else, or will he always be a Laker?

Owner Real Deal Posted November 8, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted November 8, 2009 Yeah, I don't see Kobe ever leaving Los Angeles, and I'm really not sure if the Lakers would ever trade him or let him walk.
Check my Stats
Lakers would have to trade Gasol and Bynum and Odom this year for nothing but picks for Kobe to not retire a Laker IMO. I can't really see him playing anywhere else unless he is like 39 and some Euro team offers huge money, everyone has their price.
Guest Nissan
If Kobe takes more than what he is making now he is a douchebag, he should be signing for 15-18 million so he isn't hurting this team long term to re-sign or add salary if needed. Are you serious? lol. The reason people go to Laker games and watch the Laker games on TV is because of Kobe. Kobe deserves everything he gets because he is the hardest working player in the NBA and the Lakers would struggle to make the playoffs without Kobe. It's not his fault the Lakers made mistakes with Sasha Vujacic and Luke Walton.
OSUBucksfan09
Whoa Nissan The Machine is the machine , lol.Idk how much mistakes those two players are, those two are just role players really and actually I like Luke Walton.
