Built Ford Tough
Chris Bosh is usually an excellent free throw shooter. The past two seasons he was a 84% and 82% FT shooter respectively. However, so far this year he's averaging 74%. Do you think that this is something to worry about or is it just a case of Bosh going through a bit of a slump from the line and sooner or later will revert back to the 80%+ free throw shooter that he usually is? With the amount of times that Bosh has been getting to the line so far this season, if he managed so revert back to his 80% form from the stripe he could add a fair amount of points to his ppg average. Also, what do you think is the reason for Bosh's slow start (percentage wise) from the stripe this season? Owner Real Deal Posted November 9, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted November 9, 2009 Could be a lot of things. Maybe Bosh is just slumping, like some players do. Maybe the extra muscle in his arms is throwing his mid-range off a bit (not sure the percentages, but I consider 15-foot free throws mid-range as well). I wouldn't worry too much, though. 64/87 in his first six games this season. 44/54 in his first six games last season. The best thing about it is that he's getting to the line more, 20 more free throws in his first six games this season than what he had at this time last year. Check my Stats
I will take the 75% over the 80% if it means he isn't taking jumpers. He isn't settling for those shots right now, he is losing that jumpshooting big man label if he plays like this all year no doubt. He is definitely working harder for boards and getting position inside, thus exerting more energy making it harder to get his legs under his shot. People are blaming the added muscle, maybe he has worked on everything else so far this year and in the off-season he needs to get his stroke back. He will probably finish in the 78-82 range once the season comes to a close.
headliner
I agree that Bosh is definitely working harder for boards and doing an excellent job of getting inside position. I think that Bosh is working his tail off on both the offensive end and the defensive end of the floor. He is exerting more energy trying to get rebounds and fight 2 or 3 other guys to get rebounds at times and I think it’s making it harder for Bosh to get his legs under him to take a good free throw shot but I think Bosh will improve because he has excellent mechanics at the free throw line and you know he is not going to shoot a bad percentage for the whole season. The Regime
He is just in a mini slump, his average will probably end up similar to what he has the last couple seasons. Its hard to just drop 10% from the strike, so I dont think its anything serious.
