AboveLegit
In 2006 the Houston Rockets made a trade on draft day that sent their 8th overall pick, Rudy Gay to the Memphis Grizzlies for Shane Battier and Stromile Swift. Memphis GM, Jerry West was very high on Gay, which helped their plans for rebuilding. In just his second season in the league Gay doubled his scoring average from his rookie season to 20.1, and became known as a fine wing player. As for Houston's side of the deal, they brought in one of the best perimeter defenders in the league, which strengthened their overall defense. What if Jerry West never pulled the trigger on this deal? Would Houston have benefited from drafting Gay? Would they be better off building around Tmac, Yao, and Gay? Check my Stats
Gay would never have developed this quickly, playing on a good team isn't a good thing for a rookie development IMO. In Memphis he has been allowed to chuck and get his points, where in Memphis he would have been stuck behind a bevy of wings as a rookie/sophomore. They probably could have gotten better value than a role player for Gay though.
Dr. Feelgood
He would probably just now be getting around to where he is now. If I was Rudy, I'd be thankful that I was traded to a Memphis team that didn't have 2 other stars.
