Firing of coaches this early into the season

We have all witnessed the firing of Byron Scott from the Head Coaching job in New Orleans earlier today, in light of this news, a thought just came to me (as I'm sure it has hit some of you).

Is it proper to fire a head coach this early into the season? Is there enough evidence to support the decision made my the front office of that respective team? Or should they wait longer before making a decision?

You can make the argument supporting the front office by saying "They are trying to save their season." But you can also support the other side of things by saying "The coach is still adjusting to the new season, he needs more time."

Last season, the Washington Wizards attempted to save their season (which turned out to be a complete train wreck), by firing their head coach Eddie Jordan after a 1-10 start. This season, the New Orleans Hornets fired their head coach Byron Scott after a 3-6 start.

What's your taking on this whole topic?

I think its mainly for economic purposes, but idk. No they should not fired this early, some teams are just doomed with the players they have. How come all of a sudden Byron is a bad coach? He took the Hornets to the 2nd round, and they have always been a contender, not to mention he took the Nets to the finals.

The Hornets were on a decline as the season progressed last year, and the decline continued into a losing record to start this season. Instead of blaming it on an aging line up, I guess they pointed the finger at Byron. Personally, I think it has more to do with bringing the right weapons around Chris Paul, and less to do with the coaching staff.

I think firing coaches in general early in the season just has a lot to do with the situation. Pat Riley fired Van Gundy in the 06 season and the Heat winded up winning a championship.

It's different for every team. Usually I'm against it, especially if it's a problem of the players not executing instead of anything the coaches are doing. Look at the Nets for example, they're struggling but virtually none of it is Lawrence Frank's fault, he's doing the best he can with no talent.

With New Orleans though, they've failed to adapt their game the past three years and teams know exactly how to play them (Let Paul go crazy at the expense of his teammates, or rough Paul up and trap all his screens). The Hornets have played stale, and Scott isn't getting through. The team lacks imagination, and they're playing a grind-it-out style with up-tempo players. I have no qualms about Scott getting fired, he hasn't done a good enough job the last season-plus.

The Hornets have gotten blown out too many times already and almost lost to the Kings at home.

Not to mention they lost a home playoff game last season by over 50 points. Coming into this season, you'd think they'd want their team to start showing some signs of improvement.

While I think the trade that didn't go down with Chandler last season is what began the breakdown of this team, something needs to be dramatically changed to get this team some reason to play harder. Unfortunately the coach was the next to go.
