Dash
Its mostly story based and with a crap story/voice acting/characters, the game is bound to be disappointing. I'm still getting it though, maybe this upcoming Saturday after my SAT. Edited March 9, 2010 by Dash

reno
^ I heard it can take 30 hours for the game to start opening up lmao. I am not sure if I will get this, graphics and cut scenes look sweet, but the game requires a lot of time to invest dealing with a drama filled story running on rails. Maybe Ill check it out when games go dry or a price cut.
Lkr
the story is full of crap too. im not sure, i probably won't ever get it. and the graphics aren't that impressive, only the pre-rendered cut scenes are
Dash
i hear it takes about 20 hours for the game to get any good and it will disappoint hardcore fans....so i'm not getting it Final Fantasy has a history of having tutorials lasting 12 hours or so long. Once the tutorials and battle tactics are over, the game gets REALLY good (at least from what I've heard). The game is extremely long, in the 50-70 HOURS range, so there is roughly 30-40 hours of 'good' Final Fantasy. That alone is longer than most video games these days (Mass Effect 2, Dragon Age, etc.). fish7718
The game is 3 disks long lol, I've never seen anything like it. Don't listen to lkr he's just a hating troll killing the thread.

Final Fantasy X was about 75-80 hours long, and that was one of the shorter Final Fantasies. I'll probably ask this for my birthday in May. Perhaps I'll start playing some of the older ones to get excited for it.

I don't think I will be getting this any time soon because 20 hours before even getting into the game is too long. Saves me $60, I'll get it when its cheaper. The game really lost its charm though, mainly because of XI, X2, and XII
fish7718
Wow just had my first really hard boss fight, damn you gotta be knowing what your doing attack after attack and you have split seconds to think, this battle system is awesome. I am going to have lots of fun with this.
Multi-Billionaire
If you follow only the story, you can finish most Final Fantasies in 30 hrs. But the side quests, mini games, are the bulk of the hours you spend on. Those are what make Final Fantasy fans die hard fans. Unfortunately in XIII, most of these side quests aren't until it's near the end of the game. Like in Chapter XI (there are XIII chapters from what I heard) when it starts opening up. I also heard the first 20-30 hrs is nothing but mashing the X button to defeat enemies before the options start to appear Regardless, I'm getting this (just bought one from eBay), I'm a huge Final Fantasy sucker. I think different combats present uniqueness, such as in Final Fantasy XII, which was one of my favorites.
Lkr
The thing I dislike the most is the lack of towns
Multi-Billionaire
^Well from what I heard, the first 20-30 hrs is just a straight line, story, no option of rest/ peaceful time. Fight and fight. And then, it starts to open up. I think this is what makes the game great... for guys who aren't patient in the first 20-30 hrs, they're going to quit. But most FF die hards like myself, would just play on and enjoy the goodies near the end of the game. I think most reviewers who review this game didn't get until the last part or they did but they're too exhausted and their energy was spent on the first 20-30 hrs of the game to appreciate it. Lkr
The thing is though, a lot FF diehards aren't liking it, which is why I'm not sure if I want to play it. There aren't any towns in the game to drop in and chat with NPCs or anything like that. Seems kinda bland for an RPG imo, but Squeenix is promising towns for FFXV, so I may just wait for that
fish7718
True it does seem endless just battling over and and over again with no reward. I can't tell you how many hours I'm in because I just leave the game on all night n stuff but I'm at chapter 7 on disk 2 Edited March 11, 2010 by Fish7718

fish7718
FFX ftw. more info on this game - Snake is right for the first 10 chapters it is more a set story line, you can't go off and do your own thing, however, the battle system is far from just mashing X over and over, if you find yourself doing that you will lose, alot of the battles require a bit of strategy (unless your characters are jacked up) I'm now in chapter 10 so hopefully it let's me start to do my own thing, it doesn't let you make your own party until chapter 10 either. Still I'm loving it.
Multi-Billionaire
Sounds great I am excited. Just had it shipped to me, and picked up God of War III too (pre-order) two great games after months of no playing
