Joe Johnson Fine As 2010 Fallback Plan

 Share

He'll likely get a near maximum deal with money that a team intended to use on James or Wade. He passed up a reported four-year, $60 million extension with the Hawks prior to the season.

"Not at all," Johnson said when asked if it was odd to be viewed as a fallback. "I'm going to do my part. I can't worry about the next person or what anybody else is going to do."

He is actually in a really good position if you ask me. Yeah, he isn't really anybodys main target with players like Wade, James, Bosh and Stoudemire hitting free agency (maybe even Dirk too, but I doubt Dirk leaves Dallas) but somebody is going to miss out on landing the marquee free agents and will turn their attention to Johnson and offer him the money that they were planning on luring a LeBron James or a Dwyane Wade with.

He definitely should stay with the youth in Atlanta. I think if they can get a few small pieces in the free agency then Johnson could be able to have a nice supporting cast and the Hawks can start contending.

Look out for Chicago in terms of landing JJ next year. They should have enough space for him if they make a deal or 2 and he's exactly what they need. Not to mention playing with Derrick Rose is an enticing situation for anyone wing player.

Knicks will definitely be the team throwing the max around, like BFT said if they don't get any of the big names, after like 2 years of basically telling the fans 'wait till 2010' they will overpay for a star, not a superstar, just to save face. Also wouldn't be surprised if Knicks walked away with Amare and JJ or something, even though I think JJ would be crazy to leave.

I am almost certain Amare is going to NY, he would be crazy to though because he will get exposed while not having a PG like Nash, he will be exposed as the 2nd rate star he is.

Honestly, why would anyone want to go to the Knicks? That place is a mess and its gonna take more than Joe Johnson to fix it. They can't afford both JJ and Amare either. If Amare should do anything he should stay in Phoenix or go to Chicago.

JJ's best options are Chicago and Atlanta IMO.

I hope he does end up staying here in Atlanta. It obvious we are getting better and better each year. With Crawford coming off the bench now we are even better. It'd be the right choice to stay here but if he's looking for a lot of money, which I don't know why he would be, then he's best off going somewhere else.

Why shouldn't he look for money? He has to do what's best for himself too.

Well, that's the reason why he came to Atlanta in the first place. I would think he's got enough by now, but then again almost every NBA player is greedy.

Yeah well his best option was Phoenix like 4 years ago but he wanted the pay day so he came to Atlanta. Just because those teams might be better the Knicks might offer him the complete max and those 2 can't afford to can they? And I was under the impression the Knicks were one of the teams that could offer two maxes? Maybe with the cap going down they can't.

For Amare I can't explain it, I just feel like this guy wants out of Phoenix or something, just a hunch I guess. Also to play with D'Antoni, Nash has turned this guy into JO 2.0, he will get a max deal and 4 years from now will be immovable because of his contract, along with all his injuries and all the holes in his game, especially in the defensive end. Guess you could call me an Amare hater.

Amare would realize pretty quick that playing with Nash makes you 10x better than if you are playing with Duhon. If the Suns are willign to give Amare the full out max, which is more than the Knicks can offer, perhaps he would stay. I just imagine the Knicks walking out of 2010 having overpaid for 2 2nd rate stars just to save face. Hopefully that is the case because that would imply Bosh is still a Raptor :D

Sometimes they have to be greedy because you never know if your career could end in the third game of the season.

Then you have to ask yourself, is he worth the complete max that Wade, LeBron and Bosh are going to get? Donnie Walsh isn't dumb. He'll give JJ a big offer but not the max. No team can offer 2 maxes, not even the Nets.

He's an idiot for wanting out of Phoenix because he isn't going to be the same player without a dominant PG like Nash. Chicago fits him best because of Rose. No team will give Amare a max deal if they know what they are doing.

As for Bosh, I think the only places he'd go outside of Toronto would be Miami, Dallas and New Jersey.
