Going for the 6th man of the year award

Harris' Twitter

We've heard T-Will say he wants ROY, and now Harris say he wants 6th Man of the Year.

Of course it's a joke, but he's been trying to come back as early as possible after all his injuries, and the determination in the team despite the record is something you have to applaud.

J.R. will probably win it, lmao at Udonis.

lmao? UD has a higher efficiency rating than J.R., and I can tell you he's much more important to the Heat than J.R. is to the Nuggets. The Heat have been 0-2 with Haslem sitting out. The Nuggets have been 2-2 WITH J.R. playing.

I prefer Beasley at the PF with O'Neal at center actually so no he isn't important i don't think.

Udonis is a undersized power forward. He can't play the SF either so he really is stuck in one position and can't rotate which is what Miami is about. They rotate Wade, Beasley around a lot and change pace in games. Udonis needs to go to the Spurs or a team with a slower pace.

J.R. fits perfect into Denver, he is fast paced and shoots 3's. He could also play for Golden State but Denver suits him more i say. That's why JR is more important cause he suits his team at least.

I have a hunch that Haslem could be leaving the Heat after this year. I think there is a chance that he could leave for either more money, or a chance to showcase what he can do when given the green light to score. Plus the Heat are having a hard time fitting in minutes for both Beasley and Haslem, and Beasley is the future of this team.

Haslem has always been the guy who does all of the non-stat "dirty work", plus rebounding and scoring off of role playing situations. I'm willing to bet, though, if given more room by coaches to be more aggressive on offense, with more touches, plays, and isolations set up for him, he can score 18 points or more per night. He has more than enough weapons in his offensive game to do it.

Also, saying that this guy is undersized is hardly an argument for skill level and impact to the game. Ben Wallace and Dennis Rodman are two big examples.

Did you just compare Udonis Haslem to Ben Wallace and Dennis Rodman? lol

Sorry man but i know Haslem is your favorite player but he just isn't that good. He is solid but he has a numerous amount of chances to impact in game for the Heat but i haven't seen him capitalize (yes i do watch heat games cause they play a lot of them down here). He is good hard working player, i see that in him with his rebounding but he has to work too hard to achieve anything or he is non-existent in games. I say that meaning the better players of the game have the game come to them easy, they can score, defend and rebound/assist with ease. Udonis just struggles to put up 10/6 a night.

He hasn't got the heart or athleticism to be considered a 18 ppg scorer if he was giving a 'green light' on another team because he has chances to score for the Heat and doesn't. You can't read his statistics and assume he does what his statistics say on a nightly basis cause he doesn't.

Are Haslem, Wallace, and Rodman all undersized for their position? Then, yes, they are somewhat comparable. I'm just saying that size doesn't always determine the impact of a player. Chuck Hayes is a 6-6 Center and massively undersized for his position, yet the Rockets still have a winning record with him in their starting line up over 6-11 David Andersen.

Haslem doesn't always necessarily make a huge impact with his scoring simply because he doesn't get that many touches and doesn't put up that many shots per game. The guy is a 50% shooter for his career, plus taking the majority of his shots from midrange. I wouldn't say scoring comes easily for him, this is the NBA after all, but he has enough in his arsenal of offensive abilities to put up a higher amount of points each game if given the chance.

A good example of a player who has a good offensive game yet never had a true chance to show it, until now, is Luis Scola. With Yao's absence, he's become the Rocket's main threat in the post. His career average is 11 ppg, and now he's averaging 15 this year with the same shooting percentage. Watch as that average will continue to increase as he gets more comfortable into his role as a higher scoring option.

By the way, Haslem is just about never "non-existent" in games. Plus, this "Heart" thing is just an abstract idea. The guy busts his butt night-in and night-out and does everything he needs to do to help the team get a win, even if it doesn't always show up on the stat sheet.

The dude is extremely flexible and is the ultimate team player. He's always been willing to take a step back with his scoring to be that "hustle guy", plus this year he's even willing enough to come off the bench so the Heat can try and develop Michael Beasley. Since Haslem works so hard and is so solid at everything he does on the court, he's finished every game he's played for the Heat this year, and has made some huge baskets in the clutch that basically won a few games for the Heat this year, including a game winner last night against the Hornets, which makes the Heat 8-3 with Haslem in the line up, and 0-2 with him out.
