kingfish
90s, or today? Some people say today cause of the fouls and not as rough play. But also say its harder cause of the zones being allowed in todays game.
TheNextBestThing
Today. A zone defense is good for stifling an inside game. You're practically begging your opponent to shoot wide open 3's. Whenever they want. Add that to the fact that a foul in those days meant drawing blood from Michael Jordan. A foul today means hurting Dwyane Wade's feelings. Joe Dumars, the man who had the unenviable job of defending Michael Jordan in the famed Bulls-Pistons games, said that Michael would be impossible to defend today. Jamal Crawford, Stephen Jackson, and Mike James would not have been 20-point average scorers in the 90's.
Erick Blasco
Today. Zones are a joke. How many times is a halfway decent team slowed down by a zone? Twice a game, usually as a surprise coming out of a timeout. Ever since they outlawed handchecking earlier in the decade, it's been easier to score. Around the early part of the decade, up until around 2005, the numbers were similar to what they were in the mid-late 90's. Early in the 90's absolutely nobody played defense. Guest N4S
This era is easier to score in. Reason? Because the players are too worried about the size of their paychecks to give a flying &^*% to play hard nose defense.
