The Goods
Artest no doubt, this guy is offensively and defensively better than Ariza. Ariza played good because he had Kobe & Gasol as teammates that allowed him to do his thing. With the Rockets, that won't be there.
KurbyFX
Artest now and probably for a good 2-4 more years. I've always loved his game and intensity. [expletive] Pistons fans.
kingfish
Artest its not close. Ariza was just good cause teams would leave him wide open to focus on Kobe/Odom/Gasol. Artest can create his own shot and make any shot, not to mention how he will be open a lot more and will be able to score a lot easier. And defensively Ariza is nowhere near as good. He could get steals and read passing lanes well, but Artest does that just as well as Trevor considering that Artest averaged about 2 steals per game as well. You put Ariza on a scorer like Pierce, Melo, and he will get lit up. Artest can shut down any perimeter player in the league. On both sides of the ball Artest is better. Kobe is not the only perimeter player that can create his own shot and post up, Artest will make Kobe's job a lot easier now.
alcstarheel
Artest. Simply stated he's better on both sides of the ball, especially post defense. Ariza was getting killed in the post all year. Now Kobe doesn't have to worry about guarding that post in the situations that Ariza couldn't. Ron Ron is salivating to play some D in there. Be Like Mike
Artest. Only advantage Ariza has over Ron at this point is his age. Ariza is a system player, so it still remains to be seen if he can even be successful in Houston.
Guru
Artest but its going to be interesting to see how Kobe and him get along.
Sun Tzu
Definitely Artest.
Zero
Ariza.. Because I am extremely bias.
Multi-Billionaire
Point of concern is Kobe handles the ball a lot and he's going to pass to Artest... I doubt Artest is a better spot up shooter than Ariza. That was biggest key in spreading their offense in the Finals and Denver series. Owner Real Deal Posted July 3, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted July 3, 2009 Point of concern is Kobe handles the ball a lot and he's going to pass to Artest... I doubt Artest is a better spot up shooter than Ariza. That was biggest key in spreading their offense in the Finals and Denver series.Without looking, I'm pretty sure Artest shot better from three than Ariza did, even with probably twice as many attempts. Ariza's higher field goal percentage comes from him attacking the rim and getting wide-open shots. Artest wasn't going to see much of that in Houston, especially when Yao was struggling or out. A primary option Ron Artest is a bad thing. One that can take a backseat and be the third option is excellent. Saying he won't take a backseat to a player is ridiculous (just putting this here in advance) because he did that with Kevin Martin in Sacramento, and Jermaine O'Neal in Indiana, with no problems (he just didn't like Sacramento). JWaLL
Artest no question. Ariza played well because he was alongside Kobe and Pau, who each got him open looks and made him play better than he ever thought he could. I like his game, especially his defense, but he won't be nearly the player he was in L.A now that he's with Houston.
His Greatness
A primary option Ron Artest is a bad thing. One that can take a backseat and be the third option is excellent. Saying he won't take a backseat to a player is ridiculous (just putting this here in advance) because he did that with Kevin Martin in Sacramento, and Jermaine O'Neal in Indiana, with no problems (he just didn't like Sacramento). He also took a "backseat" to McGrady and Yao, but that didn't work out as planned. As for his spot-up shooting: Artest, with his feet set, is a very accurate shooter. The thing is, he's not a spot-up shooter, and has never been utilized as one. Owner Real Deal Posted July 3, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted July 3, 2009 He also took a "backseat" to McGrady and Yao, but that didn't work out as planned.McGrady did as good as Smush Parker back in 2006. Smush probably had the better season, actually. You guys are trying your best to dig up excuses as to why this signing won't work out for us. It was done with Gasol, when Pau wasn't going to be content with Kobe's shot attempts and him and Lamar/Bynum not being able to play together. People were saying that Fisher was a little too old to contribute anymore. People thought that the Ariza and Evans trade was a lateral move for us. Just how things go, I guess. Kobe824
Just thinking about the starting up is insane Fisher, Kobe, Ron Ron, Gasol, Bynum (6th man Odom) > Fisher Kobe Ariza Gasol Bynum WOW!!!
His Greatness
McGrady did as good as Smush Parker back in 2006. Smush probably had the better season, actually. His knee wasn't 100% to begin with, but he would have a slew of solid games, and then be disabled intermittently by the sore knee from all the exertion. You guys are trying your best to dig up excuses as to why this signing won't work out for us.Why, I never. I am a paragon of impartiality. I have always posted with a completely objective perspective. The Lakers are just another team.
magicbalala245
Artest. Simply stated he's better on both sides of the ball, especially post defense. Agree Artest in a landslide and an example of what your stating would be in Game 1 & Game 2 against Denver when Melo would post up & just dominate Ariza. Great move by us and I'm already at Figueroa waiting for a parade Edited July 3, 2009 by magicbalala245
YugoRocketsFan
Just thinking about the starting up is insane Fisher, Kobe, Ron Ron, Gasol, Bynum (6th man Odom) > Fisher Kobe Ariza Gasol Bynum WOW!!!The lineup just looks better on paper. You guys will miss Ariza.
magicbalala245
The lineup just looks better on paper. You guys will miss Ariza. You can enjoy a guy who only plays for money alright while here in LA we are winning titles.
YugoRocketsFan
You can enjoy a guy who only plays for money alright while here in LA we are winning titles. lol...... And you can enjoy a guy who jacks up random shots and will probably be the reason you guys dont win a title. You guys had a better chance with Ariza honestly This signing wont be one of those,OMGZ WE GET TALENTED PLAYER MEANS WE GET BETTER signings. Ariza fit better defensively and was a cherry picker who took smart shots and made it when he needed to and stepped up in the playoffs.Artest is good defensively but his performance on offense is very weird and he shot so terribly in the playoffs. this wont help the Lakers as much as fans are boasting about and I dont even see the Lakers winning a title now. Art
With so many good players on the Lakers and one basketball, I think Ariza fit the team more but we will see how it works out...
Dash
^Agreed. And in the Rockets' situation, I would definitely rather have Trevor Ariza.
Owner Real Deal Posted July 3, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted July 3, 2009 Damn, even I was able to admit that the Spurs, who I absolutely hate, were a much better team after getting Jefferson. I can't believe what I'm hearing. If you don't think Ron Artest fits into the triangle and that we'll miss Ariza's defense over Ron (which is hilarious), then I don't know what to tell you.
