Nets Fire Lawrence Frank

As the consecutive losses to start the season have reached 16, the return of several key players has done little to improve the Nets’ performance and that will cost Frank his job, multiple sources told Yahoo! Sports on Saturday night.

Management has made the decision to fire Frank, a move that will be carried out when the team returns to New Jersey after Sunday night’s game against the Los Angeles Lakers, the sources said. Even if the Nets beat the Lakers, Frank is still expected to be fired.

It’s expected that Nets president Rod Thorn will inform Frank early in the week, most likely on Monday.

The plan is for Nets general manager Kiki Vandeweghe to take over as interim coach, but there is still some support within the organization for veteran assistant John Loyer. The new coach is expected to be on the bench when the Nets play host to the Dallas Mavericks on Wednesday night in New Jersey, sources said. The Nets could set an NBA record for futility with an 18th straight loss against the Mavs.

Update: It's official. They didn't wait until tomorrow.

Frank was the longest-tenured head coach in the Eastern Conference before he was fired.

I don't, about time hes fired.

Theres no way you can go 0-16 and not make any changes

What changes did you want to see from him that he didn't make? There's not a whole lot of new things you can try out when you have eight or nine players on your roster. And the changes he did make were moves he tried out for the first time. He wouldn't know much about his setups until he tried them out.

97, 86, 82, 88, 81, 91, 99, 98, 101, 93.

Those were how many points we allowed game-by-game over a 10-game span. Frank made a difference on defense.

Frank also took Sean Williams future with the Nets from leaving this offseason to possibly being apart of future plans. Playing Sean Williams, or Josh Boone, along with Lopez helped Brook in never getting into foul trouble for the last couple of weeks. Considering we only had 8 guys for several games, Frank did a lot with what he had. I really don't know how much I'm liking the decision.

GM Kiki Vandeweghe prominently has been mentioned as a replacement, but one team source strongly denied the possibility and insisted the interim replacement would come from the staff. John Loyer, in his first season as Nets assistant but 10th overall in the NBA – he did nine years with the Sixers and Blazers – is a possibility.

Respect to Lawrence Frank. He came in everyday as positive as he could. I will always remember him as the Coach who gave me my first shot.

Well, assuming the Nets are going to make a run for LeBron, they may need to bring in a respected coach, instead of a rookie on the sidelines. Frank was respected.

Byron Scott is looking for a job.

So is Avery Johnson.

Anyway, smart move. I mean, the Nets have Bobby Simmons, Trenton Hassell, and Josh Boone. He should have led them to at least 14-2.

I don't see what this accomplishes. They were fairly competitive in half of their games and maybe a switch at the all-star break would've been best. He was probably fired now to appease management and fans and bring some "hope" if that's what you'd call it.

Yep, both Scott and Johnson have had success in the past. Johnson and Scott would both push for defense as well.

Scott is not well liked by Nets management and I'm sure he feels the same way too.

Not sure what Loyer, Kiki or whoever the Nets hire will do a better job than what Frank was doing. He had his three youngest players playing GREAT. Terrence, CDR and Lopez hopefully won't be affected by the change but if they are, what a horrible move they made in firing him.

I honestly hope I eat my words but when even other teams fans know why we sucked then it's not a problem.
