Kiki Named Head Coach

Combining a soft voice with hard arguments, Kiki Vandeweghe made an eloquent case for trading Jason Kidd, Richard Jefferson and Vince Carter over the last 19 turbulent months, and then helped Nets president Rod Thorn expedite the rebuilding process by getting young talent in return for their gigantic contracts.

Now, with the team’s rebuilding phase stuck in a record-tying, 0-17 quagmire, Thorn figures the general manager who brought the younger players to New Jersey should be responsible for getting them to grow up a little faster.

Vandeweghe will be announced as the 16th coach in the franchise’s NBA history Tuesday, and could take over the hot seat as early as Wednesday night against the Dallas Mavericks at Izod Center, though that has yet to be decided.

Del Harris, the distinguished head coach with the Rockets, Bucks and Lakers who retired last summer after a one-year stint on Vinny Del Negro’s staff in Chicago, will be brought in to be Vandeweghe’s top assistant.

Barrise will be coaching us against Dallas, and Kiki will take over afterwards.

This all begins with Frank. Money is an issue for the Nets, and they knew that they'd be hiring someone already apart of the organization to take over. Frank, many would agree, was the best person for the job among those already on our staff. If money wasn't an issue, maybe the firing was a valid decision.

I hope Frank can get a coaching job somewhere else this offseason, he's a smart guy that got caught in a crap situation and did the best he could with it.

I think he will go down to college for a bit. He doesn't really have the name power of some of the coaches out there and he would make a perfect college coach with his planning.
