NJNJ
A bit amusing to me that Bynum is last.
Celtics3420
This list confuses me. Kobe Bryant tops Sporting News’ list of the 50 greatest players in the NBA today, as selected by a panel of 107 Hall of Famers, major award winners, executives, current players and coaches and other basketball experts. 50 greatest sounds as if they're looking at their careers, as opposed to best players currently, because if we're looking at it currently, Shaq(for example) shouldn't be above quite a few of these guys below him, but if we're looking at their careers, i'd say Shaq is easily in the top 5. Maybe they should clear up their wording, or maybe im just a lil off of it right now xD.
Guest N4S
Why put this in the LA section? It's a top 50 list. Should go in the NBA General Section. Also wasnt Sporting News credible in the 90's? Who the hell are they now? Edited December 3, 2009 by N4S

Riot
Dwight very high, nice. But no Rashard Lewis... he's better than a few of those guys on that list. Redd, Villanueva, Jefferson, Brand, Battier, Odom, etc.
The Regime
Not very surprising.
Doc
Garnett is way to high. Also, Nene (come on), Baron Davis, Carter, Hedo, Jefferson, T-Mac, Rose. I don't get what they are looking at.Some players should be in theirplace for thier past, while some should be there because of their current play. Its weird. Cleveland's Finest
Kobe's always gonna get picked because he won a ring...but at this point including last year we know who the best player is... Those magazines always pick Celtics/Lakers/Spurs, and they always have Kobe as the best.
AboveLegit
No Antawn Jamison or Caron Butler....
Doc
Kobe's always gonna get picked because he won a ring...but at this point including last year we know who the best player is... Those magazines always pick Celtics/Lakers/Spurs, and they always have Kobe as the best. Now that is a lie. Lebron still has alot of growing up and learning to do. Lebron doesn't have the leadership or that killer jumpshot that Kobe has. Kobe can kill you in many different ways, from the midrange, inside, post, and dishing. Lebron's main focus is taking it in, while if you slow that down, you can slow Lebron down. Lebron is a very streaky shooter. It does help that Kobe plays in a much better system then Lebron. I have seen alot of cavs games, and most of the offense seems like let Lebron hold the ball til there is 8 seconds and let him try to create. That is why the Cavs got beat in the Eastern finals cause Orlando shut that down.
JWaLL
No Antawn Jamison or Caron Butler....I was just thinking that. This list is awful. Other than the first 3, the list sucks and proves nothing. Bynum over Butler and Jamison lmao...
deestillballin
I just have to admit, Kobe is beast man. Its things Ive seen boy do that I havent seen any other player do. I see why he is number one. I dont like it but I see why lol. keep up the good work Kobez Im glad my boy Dirk made the top 10 tho Edited December 3, 2009 by deestillballin
AboveLegit
Wow, Iggy is so underrated, he's under the likes of Ron Artest, BARON DAVIS (why is he even on this list), and even Ben Gordon.
kingfish
Kobe is still the best in the game. Lebrons stats dont phase me, Kobe locked him up both games last year. Just wait til Christmas, and then wait til June when Kobe is holdin up another trophy and Lebrons sittin at home.
Cobb
Nice to see three Hawks players on it. Only thing I'm a bit surprised about is the margin between Kobe and LeBron. 62-34 is a pretty big gap in first place votes.

Owner Real Deal Posted December 5, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted December 5, 2009 kobe?Haha, yeah...that's what I was thinking, also. LeBron will battle Wade and Durant for that spot someday. He'll get to battle and old and brittle Kobe soon as well. Kobe isn't old and brittle yet, so we kind of have a problem, I guess. And it doesn't have anything to do with rings. Kobe has many, many, many more ways of scoring the ball (still), his offensive game is one of the most polished in NBA history...and defensively, he's far superior than LeBron, even right now. All LeBron has on Kobe would be his rebounding and dunking, which comes because of his size and strength. You stick Bryant outside of the triangle offense (where all five players need to handle and pass the ball), and Kobe averages 7-8 assists, also. He threw six a game without the triangle, back when he had just Lamar and scrubs. Old, old argument that should never be up for debate until LeBron completes his game (if he does). Mid-range, he's got miles to travel. Post game? Miles to travel. Foot work? Forever winding roads. Man-to-man defense? Doesn't touch Bryant's. Guys, when it's time to start asking what weaknesses LeBron has in his game, where I literally have to think about it longer than three seconds, let me know and we'll continue our discussion. Owner Real Deal Posted December 5, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted December 5, 2009 im jus glad dirk higher then pau That sounds about right. I love the way Pau has improved as a defender, plays better defense than Dirk...but Dirk is a true leader, while Gasol is an excellent second option. Now, I don't think Dirk is a better first option than Gasol is a second (does that make sense?), but that's really beside the point. Gasol's post play puts him up there, but Dirk's range, primacy and overall scoring ability gives him the edge.
