We're at the start of the 2010 season!

MLB announced on Monday that the Yankees and Red Sox will face off in the first contest of the year on Sunday night, April 4 at Fenway Park, with the 8 p.m. ET matchup televised nationally on ESPN2.

The event will mark the fifth time in the past six years that the defending World Series champions have played in the season-opening Sunday night game.

It also marks just the second time that a standalone game between the two rivals has been the first game of the season. The two clubs faced off to open the 2005 season after the Red Sox won the '04 World Series, with the Yankees winning at home, 9-2.

The 2010 season opener will be the 30th time that the Yankees and Red Sox have opened a season against each other, dating back to the first time in 1904.

New York holds an 18-10-1 record against Boston in the 29 previous openers between the clubs. The last time a Yankees-Red Sox season opener was played at Fenway Park was 1985, in a game won by Boston, 9-2.

The Yankees' home opener is set for April 13 against the Los Angeles Angels of Anaheim, in a rematch of this year's American League Championship Series.

New York's regular season will also end at Fenway Park, as the Yankees make the last of their three trips to Yawkey Way from Oct. 1-3.

I've been updating the countdown since it was around 120 days, haha.

I absolutely cannot wait. It's odd that we're starting and ending the season at Fenway, and we have 14 out of 21 games on the road in April. But I like it in the way that we have more home games later in the season, which is when we usually start heating up.

Nick Johnson, Damaso Marte, Jorge Posada, and Alfredo Aceves all seem good to go after their injuries.

Jeter

Johnson

Teixeira

Rodriguez

Cano

Posada

Granderson

Swisher

Gardner

I was happy to hear that this game will be broadcasted locally as well.

After the BoSox '04 championship, they opened 2005 up at Yankee Stadium and lost. After the Yankees '09 championship, they opened up 2010 at Fenway and ____?

Nobody wants to believe it, but it's true.

The Boston Red Sox aren't a threat to the Yankees.

In fact, look for them to win about 85 games and not make it to the postseason.

There. Someone finally said what many are afraid to say.

Are they going to finish in last place in the American League East? No. Will they lose every single game to the Yankees this season? No. Will the Red Sox stop the Yankees from defending their championship come October? No way, no how.

Rob Parker (ESPN New York)

Thoughts?

How dumb is it that the World Series champs have to travel to that dump in Boston and open up in Red Sox nation. It's bad enough the first game of the season is a division game (completely retarded) but the WS winner is playing on the road? Oh well, I am not a fan of either team just thought it was odd. Should be a good game though.

It's a much better park than that stadium that the New York Mets play in from April to October, September.

Yes! The season finally starts tomorrow and now the quest for 28 begins against the Red Sox. Can't wait to see how the new additions look in the outfield, particularly Granderson. I have a feeling that right field fence will become his best friend over the course of the season.

lol...at least Citi Field is a nice park

I wish both teams could lose, and I don't like all the ESPN hype behind this rivalry, cause it really isn't too special to me. I don't understand why its on ESPN 2 and not ESPN as well lol. I'll go with the Yanks since Lackey is a traitor

I like Citi Field. Never been to Fenway but I'd love to this year. I understand what Fish is saying, though. If Fenway is anything like old Yankee Stadium was, I am sure it is a dump, but still probably really cool. Going to a game at old Yankee Stadium was awesome despite how outdated it was.
