Game attendance?

Where do we rank in terms of attendance this year? Almost every game I watch, the arena looks empty. Trust me, I know about the nose bleed sections being packed, but the middle section always looks empty.

We are the only city that has a star player that doesn't attract a massive crowd every night.

Well I found the ranking...pretty surprising results. We average a bigger crowd on the road than we do at home.

Wow. Top ten on the road, yet the Heat don't even break top 15 in Miami.

I'm not from Miami, so I don't know the city too well. I grew up in Caly, moved to West Palm Beach about 5 years ago (the same time Shaq moved, lol.. main reason I started watching the Heat, actually), lived there for 3 years, got the chance to see a few games, and now I live in Bradenton (near Tampa).

I don't exactly understand the low attendance. Maybe Miami just lacks local dedicated Heat fans, but I think the arena just appears to have less attendance cause everyone just arrives late. It always seems empty to start the games, but then by halftime it looks pretty full.

It's sad about the somewhat low attendance, cause the Heat are actually a pretty smart organization, plus a championship not so long ago.

Well I'm a season ticket holder so thankfully I'm not to blame. Pretty much the situation here is that Miami-Dade has arguably the most fickle fan-base in the entire US. If the team isn't winning, people aren't going to show up to the games. We're 14-12. Not a bad record but we aren't winning like you need to in Miami.

Just ask the Canes. We dominate in 00, 01, 02 and in 03; the OB was packed every single game no matter who it was. After that, Coker's players got there and we started to be a middle of the road team so no one would show up. Its just the way Miami is. Hell, the Marlins won 2 world series' in less than a decade and they can't get people to show up.

I feel like the attendance, besides the top teams obviously, is down overall. I know the Raptors games are a lot less full than they were last year, at least the games I have gone to which is like 4. It is a shame a team like Atlanta can't even play in front of a good crowd, I can tell you if Toronto had a team like that we would be packed, I feel like the city is just waiting for us to finally have a good team again in any sport lol.

Exactly. The second the playoffs start, the arena is jam packed.

Marlins games are always empty, but the years we made it into the playoffs everyone was there.

The Dolphins are the only team that can keep a crowd no matter how much they suck, just because of their history.

I never understood this either, because there are so many Latinos in Miami. You'd think having a successful baseball team in the area would draw them all out to a game.

Stadium location is a killer. The Marlin's main fan-base is in Dade/Little Havana. Landshark Stadium is located on the border between Dade and Broward county. Its at least a 30 minute drive and with the gas prices the way they are most people just can't afford it.

One of the problems is that Miami is such a fun city that people choose to do other things. LA's bigger than Miami and has much, much more of a basketball history too where going to Lakers games is a big deal.

Also, Miami is a middle of the road team that prides itself on defense. Not the kind of team that attracts casual fans. I'm shocked too though, I'd assume people would come out to see Wade.

And with the Marlins, the rain makes it tough for people to come to the game. It's annoying to go to a stadium that's ugly for baseball, to watch three innings, and then to wait inside because it's pouring for an hour or two. A domed stadium might make a big difference.
