Calling all PC guru's out there, I need your help!...

What I need: Laptop that's $500 or less. I REALLY don't want to go over 500, but if something that's 550 is THAT much better, I MIGHT consider it.

What I'd use it for: A lot of internet surfing, music, possibly photoshop, word processing like essays for school...basic stuff mostly (which is why i dont want to spend over 500)

Some I've considered: It has to be from best buy because I have two gift cards from x-mas to there, plus a bunch of other money i got for xmas. like i said, my budget is around 500. if it has to go to 550, i'll put it into consideration.

those are some of the laptops im considering. please, someone who's educated, fill me in on which i should go for.

thanks for the help.

how much money for best buy do you have? cause you could probably get a much better deal online from newegg or some place like that. then you could use the best buy money for a case or something

100$ in gift cards to best buy, and tbh i dont really want a case. prob not really taking it anywhere, lol. 99% of the time used in my house.

i'm leaning towards the toshiba for $550 intel dual core processor, 3gbram, 320hdd, seemed like a good deal.

Are you completely against getting a netbook?

Pretty much. I will probably be doing some photoshoping, a ton of music, possibly some picture uploading as well.

I really don't see how a netbook would fit what I'm going to use it for.

(Sorry if this came off as offensive, I wasn't trying to be lol.)

A netbook would be able to do all of that

what are the main differences then

It's smaller. Less room to store stuff I guess. You can always hook it up to a larger monitor, different keyboard, and usb mouse and you'll essentially have a nice big (depending on what monitor you have) desktop-like computer.

doesnt have to be a case, that was just a random example. id check prices other places besides best buy though and try to get a better deal. there are tons of things you could use the best buy money for. such as an external hard drive for more music, a wireless mouse, etc.

Ended up spending a little more then I really wanted to. But whatever, I feel like I got a really nice laptop...My sister and parents have Toshiba's, and honestly, I really didn't like them...scared me away from getting one.

Ended up going with this:

on it as we speak!

For 579, thats a good deal, HP's are good quality for their prices.

i thought it was a pretty good deal too...I don't know too much about laptops but for 4gb of ram, 320gb hdd, cd burner, dvd player, HP's reputation and it got good reviews, I thought for 579 it seemed like a good price...
