Lkr
http://sports.espn.go.com/nba/news/story?id=4771681 I see where he is coming from(for players and coaches), but the NBA Christmas Games and even NFL Thanksgiving games are the only time I really watch sports with the family except for maybe the Super Bowl
The Regime
"I actually feel sorry for people who have nothing to do on Christmas Day other than watch an NBA game," the Orlando Magic coach said. what a jerk, Stan and Jeff Van Gundy never say the right things. Doc
NBA Christmas is a huge tradition for my family. We go to my aunts, then watch the afternoon games. Its not christmas without it. Me always getting into a yelling match with my aunts, arguing whos better Kobe or Lebron.
Lkr
what a jerk, Stan and Jeff Van Gundy never say the right things.I thought it was pretty funny But he needs to realize that some people don't observe Christmas and would love to go do something fun that day. bigdog17k
I think it just sucks for the home teams on Christmas. They obviously have more pressure on them, and they also get to see family and friends prior. The visiting teams fly in like a few days before and probably just do nothing but practice and gameplan. I don't mind the Christmas games though, I think they're good for the NBA.
JWaLL
I feel more sorry for the away teams actually. Having to spend Christmas Day playing basketball in another city away from their family, and probably not getting home until very late at night or the next day. Yeah, but they are probably more focused on the win.
Cleveland's Finest
Yeah, but they are probably more focused on the win. I don't see how an NBA team wouldn't be focused for a game....I'm sure all players as a whole struggle not being with their families, but to say a team wouldn't be focused? Then you're just doubting the integrity of a team.

I wouldn't say its the lack of team integrity, I'd call it a huge distraction...
JYD
TBH I've never watched an NBA game on Christmas. For several reasons: It's football season, the NBA is a long, drawn out season...I don't need to watch every game, especially at a time when I'll be busy with family. Secondly, the NBA barely even appeals to me...as seems to be the trend, at least in the U.S. right now. I am finding college to be much more appealing, for a few reasons, but I just tdon't find the NBA Christmas games to be anything special. They are meaningless, and it just doesn't do anything for me. Power to those who enjoy the games. Nothing wrong with that. I think the entire reason we are all on this forum is because we like sports, and specifically basketball. I love basketball, but the NBA this early in the season is...blah.

The NBA season is way too long and boring - same thing with baseball
EastCoastNiner
I think it's dumb to have games on Christmas Day.
AboveLegit
1. No one asked you to become an NBA coach.2. Not everyone has a family.3. Not everyone with a family shares the Van Gundy family values.2. Not everyone celebrates Christmas.3. Even if everyone did, does it take all damn day or can we squeeze in a game, as friends and family get together to bond over something they might in fact actually have in common, like rooting for their favorite team?

Exactly. This guy thinks he has all the answers and that he is the only one right. No wonder Dwight asked for him to stop yelling at the team. Obviously it's hard to catch every single game. Baseball is impossible.
