ChosenOne
By MARK LONG AP Sports Writer GAINESVILLE, Fla.(AP)—Urban Meyer is stepping down as coach at Florida because of health concerns that came to light when he was admitted to a hospital because of chest pains following the Southeastern Conference championship game. The 45-year-old Meyer resigned Saturday, calling it quits after five seasons in Gainesville and two national titles. He leaves Florida with a 56-10 record that includes a 32-8 mark in league play and a school-record 22-game winning streak snapped early this month against Alabama. “I have given my heart and soul to coaching college football and mentoring young men for the last 24-plus years and I have dedicated most of my waking moments the last five years to the Gator football program,” Meyer said in a statement. “I have ignored my health for years, but recent developments have forced me to re-evaluate my priorities of faith and family.” READ MORE

Cobb
I'm shocked as most people are. Wasn't expecting this. If it is in fact health reasons I wish him the best. Kind of suspicious if you ask me.

Flash
He has health issues but I don't know if they're big enough for him to stop coaching. He's not dumb though. UF is about to go into a major rebuilding period with this 2009 graduating class moving on. They're losing A TON of guys including Tebow. Its easy to see that Kelly will fail at ND. Dude has no idea what he's going to do with that program. Urban will take a year off then either go to the NFL as a coordinator for a year until it leads to a HC job or he wait to get the ND or OSU* gig

The Great iBoldin
He's apparently not stepping down, just taking a leave of absence, which suggests that it really was something health-related. Wish him the best. Florida's OC, Adazzio, will take over. He's a decent replacement for now.
ChosenOne
Urban Meyer's 'gut' says he'll be Florida's coach in 2010 For the most part, Florida coach Urban Meyer's first public appearance since suddenly retiring, revealing a litany of health problems, un-retiring and finally accepting an indefinite leave of absence in a span of less than 24 hours was uneventful: He told reporters in New Orleans he'll be "full speed ahead" for the Gators' Sugar Bowl date with Cincinnati on Friday, then step back, hand the reins to offensive coordinator Steve Addazio, take steps to "get himself fixed" and gauge the right time to step back into the picture. When might that time be? What, exactly, needs to be "fixed," and what does that entail? Did it involve a specific diagnosis, or a recommendation by doctors to call it quits? We still don't know. The only real gauge we have of Meyer's future is this, in response to a question about whether he plans to be coaching again at Florida in the 2010 season: "I do, in my gut, believe that will happen." No timetables, no promises, certainly nothing in writing -- just a gut feeling that he'll be back in charge by next fall. So stay tuned on that.
