Jenneral
As of yesterday, the top 5 in the still-early MVP race look like this. 1. LeBron James, Cleveland Cavaliers (23-8)28.7 ppg, 7.0 rpg, 7.9 apg, 1.3 spg, .499 FG% 2. Kobe Bryant, Los Angeles Lakers (24-5)29.8 ppg, 5.8 rpg, 4.3 apg, 2.2 spg, .483 FG% 3. Dwight Howard, Orlando Magic (22-8)17.4 ppg, 13.4 rpg, 1.5 apg, 2.5 bpg, .621 FG% 4. Brandon Roy, Portland Trail Blazers (20-12)22.8 ppg, 4.7 rpg, 5.1 apg, 0.9 spg, .460 FG% 5. Dwyane Wade, Miami Heat (15-12)26.9 ppg, 5.2 rpg, 6.1 apg, 1.6 spg, .435 FG% Close behind are Carmelo Anthony and Dirk Nowitzki. Rounding out the top 10 are Steve Nash, rookie Tyreke Evans, and Kevin Durant. This looks like it'll be an interesting race all the way to the end. JWaLL
At this point it could really go either way. I'd consider them tied right now.
Jenneral
I don't really think it's tied. Sure, Kobe averages slightly more ppg than LeBron but LeBron also has a pretty big advantage in the rebounds and assists areas.

With that said, I think LeBron has a larger effect on his team than Kobe does. Without LeBron, the Cavs would struggle to make the playoffs. The same could not be said for the Lakers as they have a pretty solid foundation without their star player.
kingfish
The Cavs could make the playoffs. They play solid defense, look at how the Rockets are doing in the Western Conference without a star player, I think the Cavs would be like them. People underrate Lebrons team so much, its funny. Its not like hes got guys like Smush and Kwame out there. Hes got an all star in Mo Williams, great defenders in Varejao, Parker, Moon. Hes got shooters all over the court, fundamentally sound big men. The Lakers without Kobe are a joke, dont even go there. Do you honestly think we could survive without him? Imagine Farmar,Vujacic, Morrison playing heavy minutes on a team without Kobe, that team would be under .500 . Lately Kobe has had to play 45+ minutes just for us to squeak out a W. As far as the MVP race, its close but I still think its Kobe. Hel probably lead the league in scoring this year, and his defense has been phenomenal. Owner Real Deal Posted December 28, 2009 Owner Report Share Posted December 28, 2009 Funny, Kobe beating Lebron both times last year didnt seem to hurt Lebrons MVP chances.Haha, good point. Kobe isn't getting the MVP unless the Lakers win 65+ games and obtain the top record in the NBA. He's not the future of the league anymore, and the NBA (and mainly the media) needs to build on those guys that will lead the NBA in 10-15 years. JWaLL
how is brandon roy over dirk in mvp race......Brandon Roy has most of his contributing role players injured and he's still managing to carry them to be a top team in the West. Dirk has most of his teammates in good health and are only a few games ahead of Portland. Edited December 29, 2009 by Gil-Zero

I think he even mentioned to the media how he was tired of having to shoulder the load in the closing minutes of every game. I think it's just because he is surrounded by more talent at the moment, and right now the Blazers are just Roy and Aldridge for the most part due to all of the injuries

Force
Lol then lemme rephrase that. So Paul Pierce >>>>>>>>>>>> Lebron? He's saying that winning the championship & Finals MVP is more important than winning regular season MVP...not that whoever wins the finals mvp, is automatically better than the actual MVP. Ask Lebron right now if he would trade in his regular season MVP award to win that ring..I'm pre sure would the answer would b lol.
Check my Stats
Lol at Dirk not being in the top 5. As far as the MVP goes I don't even think much of it anymore. It consistently goes to the best player on the best team, not the most valuable player to their team. Anyways, LeBron is easily the most valuable player to his team, he practically plays PG, everything is run through him. Pretty much no one else can take the pressure off of him, and they are going to win 60 games again. So LeBron gets the nod from me. Also lol at Cavaliers making the playoffs without LeBron, honestly. A team with Mo Williams as their best player would not win more than 25 games. Edited December 30, 2009 by travesy3
Kobe24
Honestly if you think his supporting cast sucks that bad you have not watched their games. Against the Lakers, their lead grew with the bench in. They are productive.
Check my Stats
A portion of a game is not nearly enough of a sample size to grade or evaluate their cast. Again, this team would not be anywhere near the playoffs without LeBron James. The Lakers would easily be in the playoffs without Kobe, probably not a high seed but they would still be right there, but the Cavaliers record is still comparable. I say this only for the sake of the LBJ-Kobe argument for MVP.
Warren2ThaG
Getting the MVP isn't about your players surrounding you, more on team record. Stern owns.
